Flukes is a new adult mermaid romance. Check, check, check! Everything about that sentence makes me excited about Flukes. I thought this was a perfect romance. It was sweet, there was plenty of chemistry and there was mermaid lore surrounding it all. I was immediately drawn into the world at the sanctuary animal cove. I loved the idea of two animal lovers/scientists finding and raising Meena. This book kind of reminded me of Emerald Isle by Kate Hinderer, which I totally loved. But Emerald Isle was about a male mermaid, and Flukes is about Meena, a girl.
I loved how everything about Meena was Teal. I loved that her eyes matched her tail, I just thought that it was adorable every time the color of teal popped up in the story. Especially when Blake is the one that brought it up. I felt for Meena. She really only had her parents, the animals and her best (and only) friend Violet. And with Violet off to college, I could totally see why Meena felt like she was being left behind at times.
Blake is a stand up guy. Really, he is a total bad boy misnomer. He is such a natural protector and It just melted my heart a little bit. Ok, a lot. He protects the people he loves and cares about so fiercely. It was refreshing and I didn't find it forced or over the top of anything. It just fit his personality. I couldn't imagine him any other way. I am kind of jealous of Meena.
Nichole Chase really impressed me with her writing and story telling. I loved mitch the dolphin and basically the whole incorporation of dolphins in the story. I also enjoyed the fact that this was just a romance, there was no action adventure or really even too much of a danger element. There is some just to keep things interesting, but really it was a story about two young adults just trying to see if they can be together. I think it was just what I needed in the middle of finals. I loved Nichole's fishy tale. I completely fell in love with the sanctuary, Blake and Meena.

I have read and enjoyed this series right from the very start. I was so excited to be a part of the Fire blog tour. I feel like I have really gotten to know Steven, Shayna and Jodi over these 4 installments of the Elemental Series. I love this series. Shauna Granger consistently puts out quality books, and what I really love about her stories is that she always brings something new and unique to each book. Even though the basic premise stays the same, three friends each with a different elemental power learn magic, there are subplots and intricacies and new characters and new creatures. I feel like I could continue to read stories about them and never get bored.
Fire starts out with a bang, err fire I guess. Each of the books follows a different element and fire is Steven's element. I was so excited to see him step up and take a more central role. I love steven so much. I feel so bad for him sometimes. I think he is too hard on himself. Plus he is an amazing friend to Jodi and Shayna. Fire actually fascinates me, but I know it is super hard to contain, so it's also scares me a lot. So I kind of got a kick out of reading about it. I could totally imagine Steven standing the in forest surrounded by fire completely fascinated.
I'll admit that I was a little bit nervous that Shayna was going off the deep end at the start of the story. She seemed power hungry in the opening sequence in the forest. But ultimately, her friends made me feel more at ease about her initial behavior. They totally got why she did what she did, so I brushed it off as well. Plus I really like Shayna because she is so awesome and intuitive, and I like the character growth I've seen from book 1. Everyone has really progressed as a character, and when I read a series this is something that I look for and something that makes me really happy as a reader. I loved the new addition of the angel stuff, that was so cool. I actually forgot about it from when I read book 3 so I was super excited when I saw it pop up in Fire.
Fire and the Elemental series overall are great reads for fans of elemental magic. The detail that Shauna puts into her books is amazing. It really makes the story. I feel like I have repeated myself over and over again from my reviews of books 2 and 3, so I will just end with this. If you like magic, read the elemental series by Shauna Granger.

I’m really glad I gave Impossible a chance because I ended up really enjoying it. It turned out to be a much more powerful and emotional read than I initially thought it would be. The idea at the start of the book kind of reminded me of the 1990s movie Drive Me Crazy, but it was different enough that the similarities were only general.
I liked Luca right away. Just something about him drew me in. He seemed to have a good heart, and when I saw him out there mowing their lawn, I knew I was hooked. It took me a little bit longer to warm up to Ashton.
Honestly, I was a little bit nervous that I wouldn’t like her at all. I started reading the book and everything she did was so mean girl and shallow that I just couldn’t feel bad for her, but I felt something there and that pushed me to not give up on her. I think it was the connection that I felt with Luca that made me think Ashton was redeemable, and he was totally right. I am so glad that I didn’t stat hating her, because she really opened up during the course of the story and it made me get to know the girl that Luca knew was there all along.
I thought the romance in Impossible was great. It was the heated, passionate kind of romance that half the time meant they were fighting with each other just to get a response and half the time they were kissing the heck out of each other. I enjoyed it because the romance was pretty different than I find in most other YA and New Adult books.
Impossible took me on a journey I didn’t even know I was going on when I started the book. I thought I was going to read a cute little love story and then boom! All this powerful stuff started to come out throughout the story and it grew into a lot more. I really enjoyed Impossible. I am really glad that I got the chance to read it.
I love magic books. Mostly because there is just so much you can do with them. Stones to Ashes is a promising start to the Alchemists Academy series. I found it to be a younger YA book than most I have read lately. The romance was very minimal (so far, at least) and it was very PG. This book was more focused on the adventure, or quest as they called it.
The book revolves around a tree. Yes, you read that right. The academy is IN a beyond enormous TREE. How is that for unique??! The description of the tree and how it worked was actually pretty cool. Because the tree is massive you have to navigate it through these portal things. They kind of reminded me of the Room of Requirement in Harry Potter. You just think really hard about the place you want to go or the person you want to see and you get sucked into the portal and spit out at your location. And speaking of Harry Potter, I bet you are wondering if this book is like that book at all. It has similarities in the fact that it is a school and there is magic, but the similarities are very general. I didn't find it to be too similar. I thought Kailin Gow did a good job making the story her own.
Alchemist Academy seems to be more about the darker side of magic and more about secrets. I swear, I still don't know who I can trust and who I can't for any of the teachers. And I love when a book can keep me guessing about characters.
I enjoyed reading the book from a male's perspective. I do want to get to know the characters better in the next book. They seemed to be a bit surface throughout this book. There is so much going on that it was kind of hard to get into the details about every single person and thing in the story. Stones to Ashes has really good "bones" so I am super excited to see what direction the next book (and the series) goes in. I would like to see a little more character development in book two. I was also a little confused about some things. Like, how long did Spencer and Alana go to the school before Writ showed up? and if they were not all new students, how did they end up in the same classes? Shouldn't writ have gone into beginning classes? But that was just a little nit picky point that didn't really interrupt the flow of the story for me- I just took notice of it. I do have to say, I love how Writ's power is developing. It seems beyond cool, and I know it is going to play a big role in future books.
Overall, I liked Stones to Ashes. Since this was a really ambitious world to set up in a book of this length, I think the second book will be a better indicator of which character I like and trust. I can't wait to see where this series goes. I think this would be a great series for young teen guys (and girls!) to get into.

Lethal Inheritance has some of the best writing that I have seen in a long time. Tahlia Newland makes everything and everyone come alive. It was like I was reading the book with 3D glasses on; everything was so vivid. If you like fantasy books at all, you HAVE to read Lethal Inheritance.
You know what I found awesome, right off the bat with Lethal Inheritance? On the first page of the kindle edition I had there was a summary of the book. I know that may seem like a simple, little thing, but I think it is brilliant! You can't just flip your kindle over to read the summary of a book, and when you read a book that you got months ago, sometimes you can't remember the whole summary. I think more publishers and authors need to start including the summary at the start of their ebooks.
Lethal Inheritance is such an intriguing concept. Demons that feed on fear. (and anger, and jealously, etc.) Now I don't know about you, but if I see a huge scary demon chasing after me, the first thing I would be feeling is fear. I am so impressed with the main character, Ariel. She is so full of different emotions, which makes her quest so much harder but she didn't give up. She has to travel up all of these insanely hard and scary paths up a mountain where it seems the whole world is out to get her. I was surprised at the immediate connection that I felt with Ariel, but I soon realized it was Tahlia's incredible writing that sucked me in.
And then there was Nick. He is so hard to describe. I loved him, because of his complexities and because of his flaws. He starts out as kind of an enigma, and then there is that strange energy connection that he has with Ariel. But as the story progresses, Nick opens up a little more and more and it kind of just made me like him more. I just want him to love himself. And a little more of the book from his point of view would make me a very happy girl too.
Lethal Inheritance has it all- rich, detailed world building, insanely realistic characters, and a kick ass fantasy plot. Tahlia has a gift for writing. Her writing style is so clear and descriptive, and her pacing is impeccable. I want to read the second book right away. This series has "favorite" written all over it for me! It is not a book you want to speed through, you want to savor and enjoy every page of Lethal Inheritance. I could take or leave the cover, but don't let that stop you from reading this awesome book!

I really, really loved the first book in the series, Loving Summer. Falling for Summer takes place a few months after Loving Summer, but it is the first book in a spin off/companion series which focuses more on the Donovan Brothers. I'm not sure what the timeline will be of these two series, but I thought Falling for Summer worked great as a sequel to the first book. Even though this is the first book in the "Loving Summer: Donovan brothers" series, I would still read Loving Summer before reading Falling for Summer.
There were some things that I really liked about Falling for Summer and there were a few issues that I had with the book. Let's talk about the things that I liked first. I totally fell in love with the characters from Loving Summer. Summer is such a strong person and even though both of the Donovan Brothers are great, I am more partial to Drew. In this book, Summer's emotions are all over the place. I felt so bad for the girl. She is basically all alone, just turned 18 and having to handle a ton of stuff. All while she is still grieving from the loss of her aunt. I still love summer, she is growing up and trying to find out who she is. She kind of gets her skank on in Falling for Summer. (there are three guys in this book) I wasn't turned off to her by her actions though, I just wanted all the craziness around her to settle down so she could start her happily ever after. I am rooting for Drew. Another thing I really liked about this book was the strong anti-bullying message it portrayed.
Falling for Summer is a spicier version of Loving Summer and I loved every second of that aspect of the book. I didn't particularly like how quickly Summer flip flopped between guys, but like I said she was dealing with a lot so she was emotional and very vulnerable for most of the story. The writing also didn't seem as good as it did in the first book. It seemed more awkward and there were some grammar issues. Nothing too major, but I did notice it in the first half of the book. (I did not have an ARC version of this book) Then I kind of got swept up in the story and I wasn't looking as closely at grammar.
I enjoyed Falling for Summer because I loved the characters so much from Loving Summer, but overall I liked the first book, Loving Summer more than this one. I did enjoy Falling for Summer, and I do want to continue the series. I think fans of edgy new adult contemporaries will enjoy the Loving Summer and Donovan Brother series.

Bound was a pretty unique book. I don't want to spoil it for anyone so my review may sound kind of vague. I enjoyed it. There are twists and turns throughout and more than once this book caught me very off guard. I love it when a book can take me by surprise multiple times.
I was a little confused at the beginning of the book about what was going on, but after about 15-20 pages or so I started to get my bearings and then I really got into the story. Once this happened I devoured the whole book pretty quickly. Emma is such a relate-able and likable character. She is just so normal. She isn't overly aggressive, or overly sassy. And as much as I love a kick butt heroine, sometimes it isn't just the most realistic thing to see a 17 year old girl that can take down grown men. Emma is realistic, she is just your average teenager who is worried about fitting in and being the "new girl". At times, she was a little too dependent on her brother. I liked seeing their childhood pictures and memories because it helped me see just how close of a bond the two of them really shared.
Liam was really interesting too and I was fascinated throughout the whole book. We just kept learning more and more about him and it was all really cool stuff. I loved the supernatural element in Bound. It was fresh and inventive.
Bound is one of those stories that just keeps building and building as you read it. It didn't start out as much but the story just kept picking up pace and getting better. It was downright suspenseful at the end. The ending kind of threw me off. It didn't exactly end as a cliffhanger and I am not even sure if there is going to be another book or not. I really hope there is another book because I am not done with Liam and Emma yet! The end of Bound seemed kind of unfinished. Jennifer, I vote for a sequel! Fans of a new and different kind of supernatural should check out Bound.

This was my first experience with a gargoyle book. I thought it was really good. I loved that it was set in the past and I loved the whole pretending to be a boy thing, kind of like the movie She's the Man. Plus there was the whole lore and mystery surrounding the gargoyles. And the story wraps up neatly at the end. (I am starting to see the appeal of a good standalone)
Erro or Elizabeta had to pretend to be her brother to get away from her awful uncle. She took his place at an all boys school. Elizabeta's gargoyle comes alive at night, and because of this I enjoyed the parts of the book that were at night the most. I caught myself reading the bits that took place in the day faster so I could get to sunset and hangout with Aelius some more. I got a kick out of his "payment" requests and I thought his powers were beyond cool. I got such a kick out of the pranks the two of them played. I thought they were hilarious.
The storyline of Gargoyle kept surprising me. I thought it was going in one direction and then it would change. The story kind of morphed into something bigger and better without me even realizing it. I loved how it all turned out.
I felt kind of bad for Elizabeta. She was so used to hiding her true self and pretending to be her brother that I think she almost lost sight of herself. She thought she was just her lies and I think she thought the only thing she was good at was lying. And that just made me feel so bad for her. Aelius really helped her come out of her shell. That was really rewarding to see.
If you are like me and you haven't had the pleasure of reading a gargoyle book, start with Gargoyle. The magic and lore wrapped around a really nice love story will warm your heart. (if you have read a gargoyle book, please give me some reccomendations. I want to read more!)

I have decided that I love Fey books. The Fey are a relatively new paranormal for me. I have read a few books surrounding the fey, and I have really enjoyed almost all of them. The thing I like about the fey is that I have read so many different characterizations of them, and Bitter Frost was no exception. I loved learning about Feyland and the winter and summer court from Bitter Frost.
Bree sure does adapt to change quickly. Man, she went from being a normal girl to a fierce faerie princess warrior in a few days! She struggled sometimes, but she never gave up. She just saw what she needed to do and she found a way to do it. She has so much courage, it was impressive. Bree's best friend, Logan is adorable and I would like to keep him for myself. I need a guy that can cook. :) I loved how he would stand up for Bree at school with all of the mean girls.
Bree has been having these vivid dreams, and then she paints them in amazing detail the next day. And then she went to Feyland through one of the paintings! I thought the magical paintings were an awesome detail to the story. I actually really loved how we learned so much about the land and customs of the fey. We learned through question and answer dialogue, which broke it up and made it interesting.
I am super excited that I found the Frost series by Kailin Gow. And the 8th book in the series was just released so if you fall in love with the series like I am, you can read all the books in a row! Much better than having to wait a year in between each one.

I liked Elemental Explosions even more than the first book in the series. I liked the first book and the premise and I was interested to see what Kailin Gow was going to do with the next book and I think she really stepped up her game with Elemental Explosions. And the step up for the next book has me excited as well. Wirt and all of his friends are back at school and the adventures just keep on coming.
Elemental Explosions focuses more on The Elite Class, a group of 14 super students. Everyone is fighting for one of those 14 stops. And a new character is introduced. His name is Roland and he is Wirt's new roommate. He just seems kind of shifty to me. Alana (who every guy seems to like) keeps chasing after Roland like a puppy. I didn't really get what the appeal was of him for her, but then again maybe that is just because I really like the idea of her and Spencer.
Elemental Explosions is fast paced and exciting. It is a great book for younger readers. I think it would be good for middle grade or young teens. Magic, mystery, and plenty of action to keep you entertained. It is more of a plot based book and there is always plenty going on. In the second installment in the Alchemists Academy series you get to learn about different classes too. I was so happy that this was continued from the first book because my favorite part is figuring out Kailin's take on the magic being taught. I find it fascinating. I also loved seeing Wirt develop his powers. He really does seem kind of incredible.
I'm pretty excited for the next one because of the set up Kailin Gow did with Wirt's Merlin dreams. I think that is going to be really intriguing. If you are looking for a good magical adventure for younger readers, this is the series for you.
