**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net**Teeth in the Mist is a young adult horror fantasy novel by author Dawn Kurtagich. I will admit that I do not read a ton of novels in the horror genre, but after having read, and absolutely loved, Teeth in the Mist, I may need to rethink this. This novel blew me away. I loved everything about it. I loved the writing, I loved the multiple timelines and points of views, and I really really loved the creepiness. I need to read Dawn's other books ASAP because Teeth in the Mist is one of the best books I have read this year, and it is certainly the best young adult horror book I have ever read.
Teeth in the Mist centers around the story of Mill House and the mountain it was built on/into. To tell the story of Mill house we put all the pieces together through the lives of three different young women in three different time periods. Hermione in the 1500s, Roan in the 1850s and Zoey in the present day. We got to know Hermione the least of all because her timeline was told exclusively through her diary entries, and as such I felt the least connected with her. But for Roan and Zoey's timelines, we lived them right along with them and their friends. It was a very immersive experience. Roan was sent to live in Mill House when her father passed away, along with a set of siblings who were also orphaned. Together they start experiencing all kinds of weird things, linked to powers that Roan has. Zoey in the meantime, has powers of her own and she is obsessed with the story of Mill House. Her father lost his mind after visiting the house and she is determined to find out why. She sets out to visit Mill House. we bounce back and forth between Zoey's present day timeline and Roan's 1850s timeline where a lot of the action takes place.
I am completely in awe at Dawn's ability to tell an absolutely creepy story that keeps you totally riveted and desperate to find out more at the same time. I both wanted to savor every single detail on every single page and at the same time flip through the pages as fast as possible so I could try and solve the mystery of Mill House. I loved Roan. The books ends in such a way that this book could be a completely satisfying standalone or could lead to a sequel. I know I am hoping beyond hope for a sequel. I want so much more! Teeth in the Mist is an exemplary work of horror. One that any fan of the genre should read ASAP. And if you are a hesitant reader of horror, start with this book. I think you will absolutely love it. Just start reading it during the day. ;) Teeth in the Mist will scare you, it will fascinate you, and it will surprise you.

The Kingdom is a young adult sci-fi thriller by author Jess Rothenberg. This book took me completely by surprise. First off, I am totally in love with the cover. And then I read the synopsis, and I was immediately intrigued. Robot theme park princesses with advanced AI technology. Umm, yes please! Not only the princesses, the whole idea of the park sounds cool. Like jurrasic park, mixed with AI disney, with a Westworld vibe. I was totally down for this story. And then I started reading, and I was hooked from the very first page. I love the format that the story is told in. Mixed in with he crime/murder mystery- The Kingdom is easily one of my favorite young adult books of 2019.
Behind the gates of The Kingdom theme park, you wildest fantasies come to life. Do you love dinosaurs and animals? Awesome- you can visit AI versions of extinct animals. Are disney princesses your thing? Perfect, the Fantasists princesses are there to make all of your princess dreams come true. Love fantasy- there are the most amazing virtual reality exhibits for you to check out. All in all, The Kingdom sounds like a fantasy lovers dream theme park.
Ana is one of the theme parks 7 Fantasist princesses. The princesses are housed on park property and they have never seen a world outside of the park. The seven of them are they only family they have ever known. Ana is our main character, and the story starts out when she begins to notice some strange things going on with one of her sister Fantasists. And then there is a murder of a park employee, and none other than Ana is being blamed. From there on out the book is told in dual timelines, the timeline leading up to the murder and the present day of the murder trial. I loved the format of the present day timeline. It is told in video clips, pictures, and trial transcripts, which made the book feel interactive and kept it fast paced.
I loved seeing Ana and Owen, and I really loved the sinister mysterious vibe of The Kingdom. I am unsure if there is going to be a second book or not, but I am really, really hoping so! I loved The Kingdom. I think it is perfect for fans of murder mysteries and fans of science fiction. Honestly, I think the kingdom is a book that pretty much everyone will love. It is one of the best books I have read this year. Hands down.
