Unsurprising that I am giving this five stars considering everything Adichie touches is pure gold. Emotional, harrowing, relatable, funny and passionate. All of the adjectives.
Can't believe how much I loved this
Was completely lost following the family line of the Romani Orchiere witches and the trials and tribulations they face. A book for those who enjoy multi generational family sagas, witchy things or books about powerful women.

Moments of brilliance.
Clearly written straight from the heart, this poet has everything I love in her verse: grit and slap-in-the-face moments of clarity and beauty.
We are taken on a journey through thr emotions and experiences life can throw at you: love, loss, anger, isolation but seen through a lens of an intelligent, black, LGBTQ+ advocate.
I would gladly have read double the number of these poems.
I don't feel that the content of the book matched the blurb though!
Thanks to Netgalley

Twilight vs X-Men
I really don't have much else to say about this book. I really enjoyed it - but as a fan of twilight perhaps that is unsurprising. Will I read the sequels? Yes, probably. Is it breaking a new dawn of story creativity? (Lol) definitely not so far. But at least Grace has more personality than Bella!

Firekeeper's Daughter contained a diverse mix of characters with both strong, redeeming qualities and flaws. This was the first book I had ever read set solely in and based around a Native American community and I was incredibly excited to educate myself further on the history and heritage that the writer offers a beautiful insight into.
Boulley does a fantastic job of integrating language, tradition, custom, belief, history and community into this novel in a way that educates readers without it seeming like education.
As this is focused towards a young adult or even new adult audience, when the main character, Daunis, goes through a period of self exploration and transition the opportunity for the reader to explore both culture and womanhood is there - part of the charm is that the reader can learn and embrace with her.
For around the first 20% of this story, I thought I knew roughly where it was going. I loved the writing style but was sure it would be a "same old" retelling. It is safe to say that I was completely incorrect, and was compelled from then onwards.
A thrilling and compelling read.
Thanks Netgalley for providing me with an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Characters Make it!
Well written, characters are excellent. Funny and likeable. Enjoyed that the romance wasn't the entire story. Would read more from this series!

An Unexpected Gem
This book is a beautiful and intricate journey through life, love, loss and disillusionment.
Gently nudging the reader to compare the political unrest experienced by a family of Asian Ugandans with the pressures and struggles faced by the same family line in modern times through a haunting dual narrative, the experiences of characters within We Are All Birds of Uganda both horrifies and intrigues.
The alternating pace of each narrative drives the plot forward, with the faster pace of the modern day juxtaposed with the slower, more intricate and reflective sections.
Despite the invitation to reflect on serious issues including racial prejudice and political unrest, the characters you encounter in the novel will entice you in a different way - they are relatable and likeable, despite their very realistic flaws.
This novel will prompt you to question how much ever really changes, what belonging means and what is truly important in life.
An impeccable debut.
