An interesting look at the tale Pied Piper of Hamelin, but it's only so-so. However, it's a really good book to read aloud.
A whole lotta fun. Really. Amusing, exciting, thrilling. Great read.
I was surprised with how much I liked this story. It's a WWII story, but it's set on the Asian front, which makes it if not unique, than refreshingly different. It's also a love story -- or several love stories: first love, married love, father-child love -- and one of discovery. The plot is actually quite minimal, but the characters are so well drawn, that I didn't mind the lack of action (though there was action). A good read.
I admired those who endured hardships, who tried to make the world a better place. It reminded me of the need to keep journals and correspondence with other women. Most of all it made me proud to be a woman. An excellent book.
Babymouse rocks. Really. Great, great Halloween fun.
Babymouse meets band geek. Favorite line? Zen poodle. Cracked me up.
I liked this book, don't get me wrong. But, like her other fairy tale retelling, I thought it was a bit wooden. I've come to realize it's her style: she likes working within the rigid structure of the original fairy tale. I admire that, but I think I'd like a bit of exploration in my fairy tale retellings.
Dead mom = unhappiness. Stray dog = peace. I can live with that. I liked the feel of the book, and the fact that it was more about overcoming grief after death than anything else. I really liked the dog, though.
Bad girl with dead mom finds a newish start at a Christian camp. Better than that sounds, but not great. Liked that it was set in Australia, though.
A beautiful story. A wonderful read-aloud. Just about perfect.
