Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy for an honest review.

Lore’s story has come to an end and I’m really glad the author decided to make this a duology.

Overall, I like what this book represented. A chance at justice for the oppressed and an opportunity for liberation under a cruel ruler. Unfortunately, there were parts of the story that just didn’t work for me. I understand how Hazen and Queen Naim later came to be part of Lore’s allyship, but the second part of the book felt longwinded and didn’t contribute that much to the story. I really wish more time was given for the third part because once Lore came to face off with the King, it felt rushed and anticlimactic. Also, the spicy parts with Finn felt out of place and didn’t really contribute to my understanding or belief in their relationship. I honestly felt she had more chemistry with Asher/Syrelle.

A good read with just a few weak plot points, but glad Lore and her people found a happy ending that led them to freedom.

This one has some potential, but I think the story could use some more development. The writing felt rushed and there were details about the plot and character that could use more context. I approached this as a former middle school English teacher and found that the plot points surrounding Kaylani’s father and his time with the Watsons could have been further developed, as well as the context between Chadwick, his relationship with Cassie.

I could see this being a good summer read for a middle schoolers and encourage readers to remember the intended audience when reading.

Yea, the cutesy cover got me and I should have known better. This was just okay, but the audio was kind of cringe at times. On top of that, I didn’t really like Ivy’s justification for using her dead sister throughout this. I think the story could have been fine without the dead sister part.

80% of this book seemed all over the place and boring. The last 20% picked up and finally started to put things in place, only to end on a cliffhanger. 😒

This ended up being better than I anticipated and I think the audiobook contributed to that! I really enjoyed the production and while the story has some serious undertones, there were parts that were funny. I like how the podcast episodes were infused in the overall story. The last 20% really took off and the person I thought did it ended up not being Savvy’s murderer, which was a good plot twist.

I’m officially in my “summer reads” era and got this during a Book Outlet haul. Honestly, this story was just okay. I think I expected more since I was pulled in my the cover and synopsis,  but in some ways, it fell flat. I feel like Addison was too caught up in selling the place/being “mad” at a grieving widow to fully understand what her aunt had left her/who her aunt was as a person. I did like the addition of the house guests providing vignettes to Addison about her aunt, but that was probably the only thing I really liked about the book. I’m not sure if I will go on to read the rest of the series or not.

A sapphic read for PRIDE 🌈 month!

Mazey is such a good writer and I am really enjoying reading her back catalog.

This one features Opal and Pepper, as they are forced to live together once Opal wins the lottery and moves into the home/flower shop of Pepper after her mom sells the place without telling Pepper when her grandmother (the owner) passes away.

I gave this one an extra half a star because it takes place in both Charlotte (my home) and Asheville (one of my favorite places).

Ultimately this was an okay read with both Opal and Pepper coming out of their shells and growing as people with some spicy scenes. A great little palette cleanser if you need.
