Not sure if it was this story or the style, but was surprised to not thoroughly enjoy something by Martha Wells. I kept feeling like I wasn’t getting enough of the story.

Demons, Witches, war, bouncing back and forth on a timeline, being drowned alive (reduces/removes demons’ access to their power).

Style was very interesting. I’d like to read more Solomon that’s from a different project. Was unaware of the tie ins with music etc prior to reading.

Final book of the Graven - a genre-breaking debut space opera trilogy that is simply marvelous. Full of big ethical questions, hard decisions, an expanding empire, good intentions with seriously gnarly consequences, and found family, this series published by Orbit deserves a LOT more attention from the SFF crowd more largely.

Read in basically a single setting - 4+ stars for this slasher. Fans of the genre will see some, but probably not all, of the twists in these brief but pulse-pounding pages.

Not sure if I’m up for reading the whole series. Had to put this one down a few times before finishing it because of how slow paced it is especially in the beginning. Also feel like not enough context/explanation is given for some things for the reader but curious enough to read the second book I think.

This book was an absolute joy. Rocky might be my favorite little critter I’ve ever gotten to know through a SF novel.

When it looks like life on Earth is doomed, a high school science teacher happens to end up on an interstellar mission to rescue the planet. His memories come back in fits and starts after years of being in a coma during the flight, but the real joy is Rocky and his people, the Eridians. Rocky is an engineering genius and the friendship between him and Dr. Grace is one for the ages. Laugh out loud funny, a great tale of interspecies learning, dialogue, translation, and friendship.
