I read this book for a school assignment, and I loved it--not because it was about a cancer surviver, but because it was true on a fundamental level that I'm not not sure everyone understands. I'm not even sure that Lucy did. It talks about beauty, yes. It is a memoir, yes. But I think an important thing to remember is that Lucy was a writer. She told her story the way she wanted to. She chose to end it at a time when she was happy. She portrayed her family and friends in her own way, and we try to analyze them, it should be as characters, not as people. It is nonfiction, but this sort of nonfiction becomes fiction when people read it, and we can feel as we wish about fiction, while we are not fit to judge what we think we know about another person's life.
