I can only leave a library book on my "currently reading" for so many months before I need to accept that I'm not going to read it right now and just return it.
The setup for this book was more interesting to me than those for Adiba Jaigirdar's previous contemporary novels that I read and enjoyed. Unfortunately, I just sort of got nothing out of this book. The characters were flat and underdeveloped, and the plot wasn't nearly as interesting/gripping as it should have been. Maybe the plot would have picked up more as the story progressed, but I just didn't CARE, and after looking at other reviews I don't think I'm going to end up caring any more than I currently do.
Also, Violet is SO RACIST to Emilie and the book doesn't seem to want to acknowledge that that's the situation there? Very weird.

This book is really good and interesting so far, but I am extremely burnt out on AI at the moment and therefore not in a headspace to fully enjoy or appreciate this story. I'm also just reading far too many books right now and need to prune. Will return to it at a later date.
There’s nothing wrong with it. I just don’t really care. Maybe I’ll try again sometime, maybe not.
I love Josephine Baker, and I was also really interested in the special agent stuff, but this book really did not work for me. It's really long and wordy. It extrapolates the thoughts and feelings of people involved more than feels reasonable. And it's not really about Josephine Baker. It's certainly not from her perspective. It's the story of her involvement in WW2 as told by the white men around her, and I'm not super interested in that. I'll find a different Josephine Baker biography to read and just accept that I'm not going to be learning much about French special agents in WW2 right now.
It’s good but I’m not in the vampire mood right now. I’ll come back to it when I am.
I tried to read this book twice. Didn’t make it very far either time. I think it’s time to just throw in the towel.
He started stalking her and calling his penis “Charlie.” I can’t deal with this. It’s a shame cause the book as a whole has potential and the aunties are fun, but no. Absolutely not.
ARC expired before I could finish it.
Gorgeous worldbuilding. I just didn't care about any of it really.
