Though the pacing felt a bit off to me in places, this book had me hooked from the beginning. I've been in such a superhero mood since Spider-Man came out, and listening to this on audio really helped to drive the action forward. Plus, it features a transgender main character from an own voices author, so the story itself feels authentic and not something that I've been in the superhero genre as of late. Definitely pick this one up!

I reviewed the first book in this series, Essence, last year, so the author reached out with the second book to review. Obviously, I immediately said yes! Gabrielle created such an interesting and unique world in Ethra that I couldn’t wait to see where Abbey went next on her adventures.

So, I’ll admit that I had to refresh my memory for Essence before jumping back into the series. I read a lot of books! What I actually loved the most about this second book in the series is that we get more background and history on Ethra. This was something that I wanted more of in the first book. I’m so glad we got more of this in this one! It felt like it allowed me to better understand where the characters were coming from and where they’re planning on going next.

And that ending! I’m so glad there’s going to be a book three because I need to know what happens next. The budding relationship between Abbey and Zac added an element that I felt like I was missing in the first book. I’m looking forward to seeing more from everyone (and new characters) in the next book!

I liked the art here, but the story felt it lagged at times. I did like the end when they recapped some of the biggest battles. Back to Spider-Man!

Fast paced with lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. Exactly what I've come to expect from Jay Kristoff. Glad I read this in a single day.

This might be my favorite of the three books. So much emotion, action, everything you could ever need in the final book in a fantasy trilogy. Heartbreaking and yet I didn't want it to stop.

Oh my God. I forgot how much I loved Mia and Mister Kindley until picking this up. And I can't get over that ending! I need to know what happens next, now.

I think what I like most about this series is that it's very, very dark, but Kristoff still injects humor into the story, via the footnotes. Seriously, read the footnotes. They make the story so much better!

The story is great, Miles is great, and the art is fantastic. Though I've been reading stuff out of order, I honestly loved the interaction between Peter and Miles. Can't wait to read more!

A cute mystery that definitely put me in the mood for fall! Not what I typically read, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Caitlin an eleven-year-old girl with Asperger's is trying to figure out how to get closure after her brother's death. This book has been on my radar for a while, but I finally sat down to read it and I'm so glad I did! The writing style pulls you in and the details make the entire story feel realistic and authentic.

A lot of momentus Spider-Man stories in here, and a marked turn in Peter Parker after Gwen Stacey's death. The writing here is fantastic, bringing Peter's story to life. The best thing about this is probably Peter's evolvement over time. Can't wait to read more!
