I haven't read this probably since it first came out, but so much of it came back! Also there were a lot of scenes I forgot. Mostly because the movie left a lot out, so we're not going to talk about that awful adaptation and look forward to the TV series that's coming!

I can see why kids gravitate towards Riordan's writing because it's fast paced, funny and has fantastic characters. Plus, this whole series just has really great chapter names throughout, adding to the fun nature of the story. It's also a great introduction to Greeky mythology for those middle grade readers. You can learn something while reading about fun adventures!

Re-reading these because I'm doing a Percy Jackson event at the library later this summer and I want the stories to be fresh in my mind! I always forget how quick these read, and I think that's partly why kids love them so much. They are fast paced and packed with action. This one brings the story further and ups the stakes, and you get a sea adventure on top of it!

These books really come back to me once I get into them, but there is so much that I forgot happens. Which is to be expected, since I guess I read these more than 10 years ago. I first read these books when they were just coming out, which honestly kinda makes me feel kinda old. But I digress.

We always knew the stakes were high at the beginning of this series, but I feel like the stakes are really upped in this one. Percy is getting older, and facing the fact that the's probably the one the prophecy is about. The adventures are getting more and more dangerous, and there's more of a threat of death hanging over them. It's a fast-paced, quick read and I will definitely be picking up the next one tonight!

The stakes are risen in this one! Since this is the penultimate book in the series, it does make sense. And the layrinth is the perfect place to show Percy's growth as a character, and throwing in some interactions with Rachel Elizabeth Dare illustrates his middle school boy nature. He's so oblivious about why Annabeth hates her, and it's honestly hilarious.

While re-reading these, it still makes so much sense to me why these are so popular among kids because they are so easy to read quickly. Riordan keeps up the pace in every book, and even though they keep getting longer, they still feel just as fast. On to the next book!

Normally, when you come to the end of a series, you get a little build up before you come to the final battle. Not with this one! Most of this book is really just nonstop action, with a few pauses for story development (and character development). You'd think that maybe the action gets a little tiring, but it really doesn't. Riordan paces it in a way that gives the readers a break (just like Percy and his friends get a break). It's really well written in that aspect.

It is the end of a series (but we now know that we're getting another Percy book!), but there's room left for other stories. And man, did Riordan write other stories. I'm glad so many kids like this series so much, and I can't wait to continue on further than I made it the first time.
