This was a quick read for me, and I absolutely loved it! The only reason it's not getting five stars is because I felt that there were some odd pacing things. But the characters in it were great, and we love seeing trans stories featuring so much joy.
While there is a lovely, wonderful romance between Spencer and Justice, the friendships in this book were just as good! Spencer and Aiden's friendship was purely supportive, and as Spencer joins the soccer team, he learns his teammates are just as supportive. If you love queer sports stories, I definitely recommend this one!

Let's just start by saying the art in this is fantastic, followed by a compelling story with great characters. What else do you need, honestly? Also, I need the next volume right now, please and thank you.

This was so well done! Acho explains aspects of racism in a way that's really approachable and works well for its target audience. Plus, there are a ton of other great resources in here for kids and parents wanting to learn more.

While I wish some of the world building would have been a bit stronger, this was a delight. The characters are really what make this story. They have such a great journey, and I think this could benefit with more volumes! It would help to flesh out the world a little more.

Even if I didn't know much about Kwame Onwaucahi before jumping into this book, I learned a lot after reading it. I enjoyed that recipes were included throughout and so inherently tied to each section. I don't read a lot of cooking memoirs, but read this one for the Read Harder challenge. And I'm happy to say it was really well done!

If you're looking for a romance, this is definitely not the book you're looking for. This is a tough read but also an important one. It's a look at how men in power abuse it, and what happens when young girls try to speak out against it. It's heart-wrenching because you know this happens in real life. You know there are girls like Charlotte who are struggling but don't feel like they have the power to do anything. Even though I felt the pacing was a bit off, overall this is a powerful read, if you can make it through it.

While this wasn't my favorite volume, there are a lot of great conversations that happen towards the end about friendships between girls and boys. Things got really deep, and I think that's important for what's going to come next. Which I won't know for a while because no libraries are currently loaning out their copies to other libraries. I might just cave and buy them.

Wow this volume is emotional! There's so much emotional depth to the characters in this series, and I think that's why I'm hooked. I read this in one sitting because I couldn't put it down!

Well this was just a wonderful time. Witches and magic and family rivalries. I loved that Katybird and Delpha had to learn to work together. Katybird is intersex, and she's trying to figure out what that means for her, her magic, and her identity. There's so much in here that makes this a great middle grade book, and even with the magic, I think a lot of middle grade readers will relate to Katybird and Delpha.
