This was a great audiobook w/full cast!

4.5 heartwarming stars

Why did I take so long to read a book by Fredrik Backman? I honestly thought he wasn’t for me and I’m so pleased to have been proven wrong. I loved this quirky book! It was heart-wrenching, funny, outlandish at times and just so darn relatable. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This book pulled at my heartstrings. At first glance, it’s a story about a would-be bank robber and an apartment full of hostages but really it’s about so much more. It’s about being human with all the messy, ridiculous mistakes we make along the way. It’s about love and forgiveness. It’s about allowing ourselves to grieve and move on. It’s about acceptance, friendship, despair and hope. ⁣⁣

I don’t know how Backman tackles such big themes (suicide, infidelity, mental health and more) with such wit and grace but does he ever. I had the opportunity to listen to the audio courtesy of @librofm and it was so well done. I was hooked from beginning to end and highly recommend it! ⁣

Thank you to Fredrik Backman, Atria Books and Netgalley for providing an e-arc of this book and Libro.fm for providing an audio arc in exchange for my honest review.

4.5 What a thrilling ride on the crazy train stars!

I had no idea going into this book that it would be such a wild ride! Vince Taplin takes crazy to a whole new level with Alex and I was here for every obsessive, stalkerish, sexually deviant, psychopathic second. ⁣

Alex has fallen hard for Vick and she is willing to do anything to make him hers. She is wealthy, powerful, attractive and unwilling to let anyone or anything stand in her way. ⁣

Alex is one scary woman which means I absolutely loved her! To call this book a wild ride would be an understatement. I was hooked from the start and enjoyed every “oh no she didn’t” crazy moment. I highly recommend this book, especially if you enjoy a thriller that will leave you speechless and never quite looking at a bottle of vanilla extract the same ever again.

3.5 murder a la Agatha Christie stars

This is my first Ruth Ware mystery.

A thrilling ride filled with secrets, suspense and action!

This book was sitting on my TBR for over 2 years! Why did I wait so long to read it? I actually listened to the audiobook and was fully engrossed from beginning to end. Let me set the scene for you - Michael and Angela Frazier are happily married and trying to conceive after years of failure. One evening Michael’s ex-wife, Erica, appears at their door frantically asking for his help locating her missing daughter, Felicity, who she believes is his daughter. After that, it was bombshell after bombshell as they searched for Felicity.

I will come right out and say that the plot was far fetched and so much of what happened was implausible but this girl was hooked. The book mostly takes place over the course of one crazy night with short chapters that leave you filled with either dread or suspense so it's impossible to walk away. The search for Felicity uncovers secret after secret, putting everyone in harm's way for one reason or another.

While I enjoyed this book I did have the kidnapping figured out so sadly there were no surprises there for me. I also felt like the end served to tie things up a bit too neatly and happily ever after like, or at least as much as a thriller has a happily ever after.

Every choice we make is a defining moment in our life. What we do or don't do - impacting everything that comes after that moment. Once a choice is made, there’s no going back - or is there?

The premise of this book caught my attention. Told in 2 separate storylines we follow Joanna and the different paths her choice leads her - to either face the consequences of her actions or conceal them. Joanna is walking home alone on a deserted street when she hears footsteps behind her. Having just fled from a rough man in a club she becomes fearful he's after her. As her pursuer catches up to her, she pushes him down the steps in a panic. Her attacker tumbles and lands face down in a puddle. He's not moving, not breathing. Jo is faced with the biggest decision of her life, does she call for help or does she walk away and pretend she was never there?

The story takes us through both of these choices. We see firsthand what becomes of Joanna as she owns up to her choice and deals with the injury she inflicted on this man. We also see what becomes of her as she grapples with keeping a secret of this magnitude. I loved the psychological toll both sides portrayed - Joanna's struggles were poignant and palpable.

Still, I struggled a bit to stay focused with this one and never felt fully connected to Joanna. I found being in her head started to feel tiresome after awhile and as a whole the unresolved ending left me feeling a bit disappointed.

Thank you to Edelweiss and Penguin Publishing Group for an advance copy of this book - available now.

Holy guilty pleasure! Tax completely sucked me in and left me wrecked.

This was so
