At some points the storytelling was captivating, at others repetitive and padded with too much information. For future readers: this book is less about natural disaster than it is about Newfoundland politics.
DNF at 27%. I really like Ng's writing, but the characters and plot felt predictable and lacked depth. There were beautiful and insightful moments, but I decided to stop reading because I totally lost interest. I don't think it's a bad book, and I can see why many people like it. It just wasn't for me, especially not right now.
