The Wife Upstairs

DID NOT FINISH

It triggered my PTSD
informative reflective fast-paced

I read this in one day and I really found it very entertaining. It kept me hooked and wanting more. I have heard of one or two of the killers in the book but most were new to me. I had to look them up after I was done reading because I wanted to know more about them. I understood why she picked older women to write about and that is what I liked about the book the most. I will be picking up her new books once it comes out.

I did really enjoy this book but not really feeling any of the characters like I did with the short story. I will be continuing with this series because I do I love it. Lynn Cahoon is becoming one of my favorite cozy authors and I can't wait to read more from here. I did also get the audio book from Netgalley and I loved loved the narrator. I will be buying a physical copy of the book as soon as it comes out.

I loved the concept of this story but it really didn't work for me. I did love the writing and the style of the book. It did move fast and it was easy to follow. I know some of my family and friends that would love this book and I will tell them to pick it up.

This has to be one of my favorite books I have read this year and it is just the start of 2021. I really enjoyed El and how she grew as the story went on, I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. I can see why people compare it to Harry Potter but it is so much darker. I was very fascinated with the school and magic system, it kept me hooked. I also liked that she didn’t overload you with information about the world in one go but explained it throughout the book. I really can’t wait to get my hands on the next book and see what this world has in for me.

I really enjoyed this book and I was sucked in from page one. It gave me the right amount of creepy that I needed. There characters I liked the POVs better than others, I really liked Pete’s and Tom’s POV alot. I liked that the terrors weren’t in your face but in the background getting stronger. Like you know something dark is there but you can’t place why you are scared, I love books and movies like that. I will be reading more from Alex North soon.

I have always been fascinated with The Donner party and why they did what they did. As I read this book, I looked up the timelines and the people in it. That made reading it a little funner for me. I liked that I could put a picture of the names. I felt that I was on the trip with them and felt the fear. If I didn’t need sleep, I would have finished this in a day. Though I did give it four stars instead of five because at some parts it did feel like it dragged on. Other than that it kept me entertained and it made me look at hunger in a different way. Not just hunger for food but for an escape from your past. A hunger for love and a place to belong and much more. I will be picking up their other book The Deep very soon.

It took a day to get my emotions back to normal and off the rollercoaster they were on with this book. It was a little slow in the start in the book with the world building but soon it picked up and it was nonstop. I loved the back and fourth with between Bryce and Hunt well with Bryce and the other characters too.  I do have to say Ruhn is one of my favorite characters in this book along with Declan, Tristan and Isaiah. I really hope the next book will have just the same emotional rollercoaster this one had me on.
