This book inspired me to be a vegetarian. I haven't read it in decades, but I love it for that one insight.

With an insightful essay and a carefully restrained selection of examples in black and white photos, Joe York has communicated the essence of the topic in the smallest package that will serve the purpose. I would love to see a greatly expanded volume!

Plenty of bits interesting enough to read out loud, and a welcome supplement of synthesis to a history education that was mostly discrete and analytical.
