Dear Trans Readers: I am a trans school librarian. This is a content warning about this book. I am so so glad this book exists but it wasn't written for us. It was written for the kids who don't know about us. The kids who NEED to go through the motions of feeling embarrassed, ashamed, scared, nervous... and then learn what being trans really means and finding that love and understanding for us. Maybe in the near future everyone will know what being trans means, and we will be accepted from the beginning. But right now, this kind of book, written by queer authors, is still needed. 

I did not /enjoy/ reading this book. It was painful in an uncomfortable way. It put me in a position I didn't enjoy being in - of someone discussing and reflecting on what they honestly and genuinely thought about someone coming out as trans. And that sucked. Something I have had to tell people over and over again in my life is that they didn't lose the old me. They don't have to mourn for me. If they are worried or nervous, there are places to talk about that, indeed it is healthy to; but don't talk to me about it. I am going through enough of my own things.
This book was exactly what I've been avoiding thinking about by asking that. It told me eeeeeverything from a child's pov. 

But for kids like Izzy, or kids who don't understand, who might otherwise be the ones to make those jokes or comments, this is a great book! I will definitely be adding to my library, just be careful and be kind to yourself when you read x
