Who knew Tetris was created by a Russian scientist who barely received any payout for his creation until he immigrated to America in the late 90s? Who knew Tetris was involved in a series of legal battles between Russian bureaucrats and tech giants like Atari and Nintendo? I sure didn't! A highly enjoyable graphic novel detailing the creation and subsequent world domination of the highly addictive game we all know and love. A bonus are the highly readable and deceptively simple panels colored in only black, white, and yellow. Would make a great gift for a gaming geek.
Kids find a body in the woods. Sounds like [b:The Body|11574|The Body|Stephen King|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1328182521s/11574.jpg|2334601] (AKA Stand By Me), but that is where the similarity ends. I gasped out loud at least two different junctures and enjoyed the characters and the muted color palette. The ending was a bit abrupt, and I hope there will be more to come!
Fairly famous novelist Amanda decides to treat herself to a night of passion for her thirtieth birthday and finally rid herself of her virginity. The madame has other ideas, and sends a rich publisher instead. When Amanda confuses him for her prostitute, he follows along, and she doesn't figure it out until she encounters Jack at a society event.
You can tell this is an older romance novel. I didn't really enjoy the consent issues and trickery, as Jack is constantly making Amanda do and try things she is very verbally saying no to. Premise didn't meet the execution. Also, I was bored. I have enjoyed many of Kleypas's newer titles, but this one wasn't for me.

A relatable set of personal essays by Anna Kendrick, detailing her rise to fame and her various eccentricities and anxieties. Nothing revolutionary, but a pleasant way to pass time in the car while commuting to work. Kendrick's narration definitely helps bring the book to life.
This one made me a little misty. A cat is sort of collectively owned and loved by a neighborhood (thus the different names), but he hasn't visited one house on the street. When he does, he finds a little lady who spends her days watching TV and playing solitaire. Bringing the cat into her home, she finally meets the community surrounding her when they start to worry where the cat is. Happy ending for all!
I also have to give bonus points for the lovely illustrations AND the matte paper. I love matte paper. Such a nice tactile experience, and no silly glares from overhead lights. I haven't read this yet to my daughter (5), but will soon!

Cute Cinderella story centered around a fake fandom similar to Firefly. Pleasant writing, standard story arc (with some major suspension of disbelief moments), and charming characters made for a fun read.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.

Minerva fears Spindle Cove's most notorious rake will soon be proposing to her sister, a marriage Minerva fears is only for money. To thwart Colin's plans, Minerva instead proposes he falsely elope with HER to Scotland, all so Minerva can present evidence of an odd, massive lizard type creature to the Edinburgh Geological Society. She's certain her plaster cast of this lizard's footprint will win her the five-hundred-pound prize, which she'll give to Colin to tide him over until his inheritance kicks in. Colin is totally reluctant and tries to assure Minerva he will NOT be proposing to anyone, let alone her sister, but he is soon swept up in an adventure that takes the two on a muddy, treacherous romp complete with false identities, swoony sexual tension, and one large trunk containing a dino footprint.
This was just wonderful. Minerva is a fantastic heroine who is focused on her studies, is curious, and not timid in the least. She knows what she wants, society be damned, and will go after it. Colin is not a typical Romance hero but is instead funny, insecure, and super sweet (along with being quite snarky). While of course Minerva is a virgin, I appreciated how Tessa Dare took the time to have her characters learn together.
Super fun, and just what I needed right now, an uplifting, light, and hilarious read!
My opinions haven't changed much from my first read, a true gem.

Intriguing start to a romance trilogy featuring a world built around Roman mythology. Cat, the heroine, is feisty and full of power that she is trying to hide from her enemies, but the hero is a bit of an Alpha bully and may be problematic for some readers. I wish a bit less time was spent constantly reviving various characters from mortal injuries and more time spent building the relationship between Cat and Griffin, but I liked everything well enough to put Book 2 on hold.
We've seen Elle and Archer's sexy frenemies animosity throughout the first two books in the Heartbreaker Bay series, and we finally get to find why. Elle, once a young grifter trying to drag her and her sister out of a life of petty crime, was busted in a police raid led by new cop Archer. Elle thinks Archer lost his job after he chose to protect her instead of completing the raid, and after an awkward rejection of her advances to "repay" him, Elle went on with her life until getting her current job as a building manager. Archer's private security business is in this building and unbeknownst to Elle, Archer has kept tabs on her for years, secretly helping out in small ways, including recommending her for her current position. Forced to interact with each other on both a personal and business level, they are both blind to the fact they are totally into each other, and as the secrets of the past are resolved, we get a super sweet and sexy ride to their HEA.

Exactly what is claims to be - a series of essays on race and resegregation written that are clearly written and most importantly CITED. Difficult subject matter, made all the more timely by recent events. I would like to know Jeff Chang's thoughts now that the election has passed, as this was published prior to November 2016.
