Four friends from a small town in Wisconsin recount their memories, loves, and troubles as they come in and out of each others lives.
Beautifully written and overwhelmingly nostalgic, Butler definitely has Wisconsin in his blood and doesn't make a mockery or cliche out his small town characters. Leland, Ronnie, Henry, and Kip are all so flawed but good at heart. Ronnie, sweet Ronnie, was my favorite. My only quibble was that I didn't truly understand the draw of Beth. I wish a bit more time would have been spent developing her character, despite the couple of chapters from her POV. As magical as Beths are (ahem), I wasn't quite sold on hers.

Follow the adventures of Superhero Girl, a small-town Canadian hero with a thrift-store cape, lack of corporate sponsorship, and serious money problems. What's a girl to do when she doesn't even have an arch-nemesis besides the snarky know-it-all comic book guy who judges her very super hero-ness. Jerk.
Awesome set of sequential comic strips, adorable and bright illustrations, and snappy dialog. Superhero Girl is my kinda of gal. I would wear everyone of her outfits.

I originally read this in 2012, but just re-read and bumped up my rating to a full five stars. I can't name any better stand-alone fantasy Young Adult novel. What Stiefvater is able to capture in around 400 pages is simply amazing; a fully realized world, a complex mythology about savage man-eating water horses, and a quiet love story amidst the chaos of a deadly contest. You can smell the sea, taste the November cakes, and hear the calls of Stiefvater's wild beasts. Fabulous.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Mark Twain, Shelly Fisher Fishkin
All I can really do is continue to sing the praises of Saga. A wonderful and diverse cast of characters, beautiful and engrossing illustrations, and writing that makes you laugh and cry. I can't wait to watch Baby Hazel continue to grow up.
Instead of waiting to die from his terminal cancer, 16 year old Travis Coates instead decides to have his head cryogenic-ally frozen, hoping someday in the future he can return, healthy. Saying goodbye to his girlfriend, parents, and family, he goes to sleep.
Five years later, but in a blink of an eye to Travis, he's back with an awesome new body. Travis soon learns that five years is enough time for people to have mourned him and moved on. Caitlin his girlfriend is engaged, his parents make him go back to his old high school, and his best friend is still living a lie. Will Travis every get back to normal, or was this second life a big mistake?
Pretty cool concept, but Whaley was a little to light on the science for my personal taste (more please)! However, what I found most unrealistic (reattaching heads to bodies besides) was the fact they made poor Travis go back to his old High School a measly three weeks after "waking up." Way harsh. But, fun none the less.

Gentle, sweet story about a girl starting "real" school in the 9th grade, her motley crew of brothers, and trying to figure out where she fits in. There is also a ghost.
Wow. Review to come.
Tight and compact as a ballet dancer's body, but just as full of power, grace, and movement. Astonish Me was simply a delight to read. As a non-dancer, I felt drawn into the world of ballet, and could easily visualize each movement and gesture.
Highly recommend.

A fantastic mix of Stephen King's The Gunslinger, The Sandman by Neil Gaiman, classic Westerns, and with a great dash of mythology all its own. Pretty Deadly's art took my breath away and kept me enthralled while trying to figure out the fate of Sissy the little vulture-costumed girl. I was inspired by the sheer amount of strong women figures, and the diversity of the cast. Absolutely wonderful. Image Comics is really knocking it out of the park with its offerings. More please!
