I made it to about 15% and everything was so flowery and twee, and I didn't feel like continuing on.

I was listening, and the narrators were so very good, but the story didn't grab me enough to continue.

read partially for a work book club. a poetic memoir and reflection on Black life in New Orleans, centered on the author's ancestors and her family, and the house they've lived in through multiple disasters.

DNF; will probably maybe pick it up again someday. it was just too overall sad and full of internal ennui versus the fun romp i was hoping for.

DNF after first chapter; he accidentally walks into a sex date his uncle had set up (and never showed up for) and he sleeps with her even though he knows she still thinks he's someone else. Nope.

not a b book. I read this for library journal and skimmed a whole lot. would make a good read if you enjoyed Mimi Matthews but you wanted the door open instead of fading to black. Lots of characters, dense prose, jobs jobs jobs.

alas, dnf. too sex-work shamey for me. He's a gigolo not like those other sex workers. eye roll, especially when they jump into bed right away anyway.
