if he were not such a vile misogynist the whole "twist" would have been as clear as it is to the reader. I also feel like Rachel is just a convenient and socially acceptable outlet for his infatuation for Ambrose and bitterness over his 'abandonment' and death.
Maybe I would like this more if I had not already read Rebecca, a far superior work.
