Trying to think about where to start with this book because I'm a little torn about it. I had a hard time getting into it. The whole first 3/4 of the book I really felt like I was reading the book just to finish it. I wasn't a big fan of the style in which it was written - I found it difficult to follow, particularly in Noah's earlier sections. I flew through the last quarter though, feeling as though I was reading a completely different, fast-paced, and emotional family drama.
I wanted so badly to love and care for the characters, but I didn't feel any close attachment to them until the end. Overall, it was a beautifully sad story about family, loss, love, and discovering yourself. It was incredibly quirky as well - something I did not expect! There's a lot of imagery about art and the act of creating it, something that I feel might have gone over my head, but that I can imagine other readers might really enjoy.
The last scene of the book is still swimming around in my head - I will give it that. It genuinely made me smile.

I'm not a big poetry reader, but I knew I wanted to get my hands on this book because I love Halsey and her music. Reading this collection of poems was a neat experience, as it felt like a super intimate look into Halsey's brain. The poems touch upon topics that give greater context to the process of creating art, relationships, mental illness, sexuality, race, and life as a woman.
I loved how I could see how certain lines or elements from these poems were turned into lyrics in songs I love. There were a lot of emotions conveyed through these poems, they felt very raw and exposed. And I think I really liked that about it.
