I actually really liked this GA version, maybe even better than the regular audios which I adore. I think the full cast really helped differentiate all the new characters in this one better than a single narrator, especially with how dialogue heavy this one was at times.

I love a good urban fantasy series so I was interested in trying this one out. Jericho James is introduced as a normal human private investigator specializing in cryptid cases, who up to this point has found non-supernatural explanations for all her past cases. She’s a clever, capable woman and overall pretty badass without taking herself too seriously. I like that she’s cool but still down to earth and relatable.

This book is definitely just the first in what I’m hoping is another long urban fantasy series. The pace in the first half is on the slower side as we’re introduced to the main characters but also to this new hidden world of werewolves. I’m very interested to see this world grow and to learn more about the werewolves as well as hopefully some other cryptids and supernaturals in the sequels.

As a big romance reader I was hoping for a little more but I also know how to be patient and can appreciate a slow burn. I’m intrigued though to see where and with who Jericho ends up as the series goes on. Benjamin and Jericho had plenty of insta-attraction moments throughout this book that I assumed they would be official by the end. To my surprise they weren’t but I see them both doing a lot more growing as individuals so I’m still excited to see how and if their relationship develops.

I think this book and its future series has so much potential. I can’t wait to see what case Jericho works on next!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advance Reader Copy. All opinions are my own.

When I first started this book around its release everyone was acting so scandalized that for the first like 5 pages I thought Lukas was the sub lol. To my minor dismay he was not and then I ended up taking like a 3 month break.

Once I got the audiobook hold from my library I decided I was finally ready to read the book everyone had polarizing feelings about. I ended up listening to the whole book in just two sittings and already recommending it to another friend halfway through. OMG I could not put it down.

While this book is undeniably very sexy, the amount of character growth made it feel like so much more than just a smutty little romance. I felt such a connection to Scarlet and Lukas on a human level and was rooting for them beyond just their romance. I think there was a great balance between character development and spice that made the reading experience really enjoyable, especially for me as a mood reader who was trying to decide if I wanted my next read to be a smutty romance or a slow burn.

If you’re a big smut reader, especially dark romance, this book will probably feel relatively tame, but if you’re newer to spicy romances you could get overwhelmed though I think the pacing was done well enough to be considered an introductory novel for a kinky romance curious reader.
