The first time I ever read this book I thought to myself, "Great. The calm before the storm. WHat in the world are we working ourselves up to?"
For the last 6 (or maybe 7) books, you've spent your time learning about and loving Richard, Kahlan, Zedd, Cara, and a great many other people. Well, they aren't in this story until the very end. You spend your time primarily learning about two new characters that you largely care nothing about. After the way the 6th book ends, all you want to do is get back into the story with Richard and Kahlan. But you can't. You have to learn about these people first, these holes in the world.
Though this is my least favorite book in the series, it is a book that deals with a very important subject in the Sword of Truth universe, so don't stop reading the series because of this book. It gets better again. You just have to ride it out until the end.
