I first read this in print in 2023 and it was a 5 star read then.
This year I read it again but in digital in my Kobo Libra Color. It wasn't the same; the artwork was made for print.
I only docked 0.25 because the format isn't the best. However l, the story is still beautiful and it speaks to me as an immigrant.
Just read it in print.

It shows its age a bit, but it has a very effective art style and the story might be slow, but the chapters move fast.
Not an easy read, though, so I'm not sure I can finish the series.

I don't know how to feel about this book. On the one hand, it seems to have taken a lot of research. It shows a nuanced look into the suffrage movement, class, and employment in the Edwardian era. It's really hard to find media from/about that period from the POV of the working class that allows them agency away from their wealthy patrons.
On the other hand, lovable as Esther and Patience are (and the other characters), they feel very flat at times. The short comic (!0 years later) that takes place in modern times allows them to be more flawed and I think that lack of meaningful flaws stops the main story from being as good as it could have been.
Still recommend it. Beautifully illustrated and it is one of those rare "old-time queers get a happy ending and no one suffers and no one dies".

This is incredibly charming and funny.
The glimpses of modern times were a little off putting but that's my only real criticism.
