wow. I took a while to get into this book but once I passed the first 100 pages, the rest flew by.
I didn't think I was going to like it as I was a little bored at the beginning, but in true Murakami style, he dragged me right in.
I was going to give this 3 star when I got to the last 4 pages as I thought the two characters were going to die - that would have been super depressing for a book already filled with so much death. but they survived, (of course - I really should have known) so I upped it to 4 stars.
my obsession with Murakami lives on...

If you have the attention span for audiobooks, I'd suggest that option for this book. I read it with their voices in my head and it would have been much more entertaining via audio, however I get distracted too easily hence the preference for the book.

If you're looking for a book filled with white privilege and "first world problems", this is it! Half the time I couldn't believe what I was reading, the awful behavior Marnell managed to evade punishment for and at the same time be praised for. (To be fair, she mentioned multiple times the awareness of her privilege as well as her atrocious attitude. Most addicts are massive arseholes.) However it was an incredibly easy, trashy and sometimes funny read.
