This book a look at STEM and social justice themes in a way that is accessible and understandable. Evolution is not something of the past, and plants, animals, and humans are constantly being changed by the actions we take every day. Through vivid illustrations, maps, and diagrams mixed with bite-sized text sections, this book explores what impacts we have had on evolution in the past and present and leaves room to ask about what will happen in the future.   

 

Each section in this book focuses on an animal or plant that has been impacted by human change. It takes a look at the changes that have occurred, offers the benefits and pitfalls of those changes, and explores how those changes have impacted the web of life. The information presented is informative without diving too deep into the dense science of evolution. This helps to make this book accessible to many readers and starts an exploration of the topic of modern-day evolution.  

DNF’d at 32% - I didn’t feel like much was happening, and I was not super invested in the characters. The cover is beautiful, though!

Over the weekend I finished Over My Dead Body by Sweeney Boo and it gave me all the spooky season fall vibes I was looking for. 

Abby, a teenage witch attending a magic academy, takes it upon herself to investigate the disappearance of a fellow classmate. Even after being discouraged by multiple people, Abby continues looking for her friend, and along the way, she uncovers secrets some where hoping to take to their graves…

I finished this book and immediately wanted more. The characters are dynamic and witty and bright. The plot was engaging and witchy and mysterious.

This is truly a perfect read for the start of fall.
