This book was hard--really hard--for me to get into. At first it reminded me of Fifty Shades, but that didn't last long. Then I just really, really didn't like Oz. I wanted to reach through the pages, grab Mallory's hand, and pull her away from this obsessive stalker creep.
But it got better. It got so. much. fucking. better. As I said, it took me a while. I had to force myself to pick it up; an irritating character wasn't enough reason for me to give up on the book. When I reached the halfway point, I couldn't put it down! The romance, passion, drama, emotion, and character growth were on a high-speed acceleration and I had to find out what was happening next.
[a:Alexa Riley|8296969|Alexa Riley|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1443032285p2/8296969.jpg] is an artist. It has to be had to create a character that is repulsive, only to turn him into the good guy the reader falls in love with.
I can't focus only on Oz, although he is the reason I have such strong feelings about this book. Amazing storyline and character progression overall! Mallory and Paige are shown to grow in their own ways throughout the story.

I'm looking forward to reading more of Riley's works.

What an interesting little novella. I was unsure how to feel at first because the epigraph is an excerpt from the Bible. I am not a religious person, and literature based on religious beliefs is usually a no-go for me (see my review for [b:Children of Angels|13327316|Children of Angels|Lynn Salisbury|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1328330862s/13327316.jpg|18454463]). It's just not my thing. But this one caught my attention and reeled me in quickly. I love a good murder mystery, and I quite enjoyed this one. Its religious connections are actually well thought out and placed in the best places within the story. Bonus: they connect to the context perfectly.
I was fascinated by the main character and his descriptions. Plus it is told from his point of view, which greatly adds to the emotion and suspense of the story as it progresses.
A downfall for me is pieces left unfinished. If any part of a plot line--the smallest of details--isn't completed by the author in some way, chances are high that I'll hate the book. I hate loose ends. But this is not one of those books; [a:Robert Lampros|14111189|Robert Lampros|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1435538751p2/14111189.jpg] tied up every little detail and character in his story into one big, beautiful bow. I love it.

Esme Cordell is the type of teacher I am striving to become. I love her personality and raw, unedited account of her first year teaching. I'm inspired in so many ways after finishing this book.
