I understand that the first book of a series needs to set up the world and characters, but this entire book felt like exposition. The suspense and character introduction dragged on FOREVER. Cool concept, I think. But, I won’t be continuing this series.

Such a psychological roller coaster. I have a new thing I love in books: the combination of modern life and Fae lore! This was written excellently.
Graphic: Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Moderate: Child death, Death, Forced institutionalization
Minor: Suicidal thoughts, Kidnapping, Grief, Suicide attempt

GoodNIGHT, what a book! Thank you for letting me be an ARC reader!!
➡️ The author kindly added a content warning with a list of possible triggers at the front of the book. Please read!
If you know the fantasy genre, here's your sign: there's map full of words you probably won't know how to pronounce. Characters’ names too 😄.
B.J.J.'s writing style is literally every thing & every way I love to read: instantly hooked in the story, introducing all of the elements without needing chunks of *telling*, sneaking in foreshadowing so perfectly you can't predict the future of the plot (I only got ONE thing right!🤯) , keeping the same level of energy and suspense the entire way through, and using words real people actually use during the 'spicy' scenes. She has a way of absolutely immersing you in the world.
Here, I'd usually share a list of my favorite bits of the story, writing style, characters, etc. I can't do that with this one; it's literally everything.
What I hated: why'd you have to do that to Wren? Not happy with you.
Future book thoughts (no major spoilers):
This little world is going through something major and poor Genevieve is right at the center. She's ready for it though, at least mentally. I'm not sure she is as strong as she thinks, especially after meeting a certain character in the labyrinth. I want to cheer on her little ragtag team of family-friends that are here to help her in the future, but there've been a lot of red flags so far. Who is actually on her side?!
