A witch struggling with her powers accidentally turns a rival vampire clan guy into a cat... and now they're stuck together trying to undo the curse and find out who is out to destroy either clans. Morgana is from a long line of witches and Oz is from the vampire clan. A chance encounter and a clan meeting gone wrong... Morgana accidentally turns Oz into a cat and now they have to find the spell to undo it and also figure out how to stop the possible war brewing between the Vampires and the Witches and who tried to poison the blood at the meeting. It's only the beginning of the story (episodes 1-19) and the slow blooming romance between Oz and Morgana has begun. This was such a cute read and I'm so happy this webtoon series is being made into a book. I adore Morgana so much and I can't wait to read the rest of the books! The artwork is really cute and the overall story has been fun to read. It's a cute start to the series and I really love Morgana's family so much. I can't wait to read the next book!

A teen detective comes home for Christmas during college and finds herself drawn back into her best friend and fellow detective's orbit... and the strange and deadly things happening in her small New England town. Friday Fitzhugh grew up solving crimes and digging into occult cases with her best friend Lancelot Jones. But as they grew up they separated ways and now Friday is back home for vacation and finds herself once again drawn back to Lance. Friday also might have feelings for him... yet something sinister is happening in town and their lives might be in danger. Can these two find a way to reconnect and solve the case or will one of them be killed? This was definitely a really interesting first book in the series and leaves you with a deadly cliffhanger. I liked the kind of cozy small town vibes the story had and I enjoy the relationship between Friday and Lance. It's like a mixture of post young adult detective novel meets kind of horror mystery. Definitely give it a go!

Penny Dreadful meets Monstress in this gothic victorian monster series featuring a mysterious woman who has just moved into a struggling mining town... where dead bodies seem to drop constantly and a deadly monster is eating away at people... and the town's own secrets are deadly. When Lady Hellaine arrives into town with her butler Goodwill, things shake up in this small mining town. Hellaine's beauty, her wealth... is all picture perfect but she's hiding something... the fact that she is a monster who consumes people and so is her butler. Her arrival is not smooth sailing though as it arises suspicion from Lady Swanson, widow of the late owner of the mine and a leading figure of the local bourgeoisie. It doesn't help that Hellaine's not the only monster in this town... there are other monsters ready to eat and monster hunters on the loose too... bodies are dropping and blood is being shed, the question is, who is the true monster and can any of them be redeemed? This was definitely an interesting one, it's. a bit scattered, but the artwork is phenomenal, absolutely stunning. I love love love the art in this series and would recommend it for the art alone. The story has a interesting monster/gothic tone to it too.

The final book in the trilogy and Halen and Kallum's story is finally at it's end, facing off against a dangerous cult, the secrets Kallum is still keeping, and the question of whether Halen can embrace the monster within. Halen's memories have finally been unlocked and there are still monsters in the town that Halen has to catch... all the while dealing with her feelings and new relationship with Kallum. Kallum's obsessive nature and mental state is questionable at best yet his only goal is to be with Halen. He'll protect her even if it means he'll have to bloody his hands which leaves Halen with the question... can she embrace their love or will she run away again? Halen will have to face her own first crime... the one she asked Kallum to erase from her memory and now she has it back... how far will she go to solve her new case? Can Halen and Kallum be together or are both their hands too bloodied? I have loved this series from the first book and this ending was absolutely perfect. I loved Halen and Kallum's relationship, their love for each other and just how far Kallum was willing to go to twist fate to make Halen his. Their story was so enticing and it was a thrill ride all the way until the end. Halen has to face her demons and embrace her own darkness if she wants to find the new killers and to figure out how she can really love Kallum. Truly, this is a fantastic series and perfect for fans of dark romances and romances with similar vibes to Hannibal ( you know who you are haha). This one was perfect for me and I can't wait to read more books by Trisha Wolfe!

When a tyrant forces a woman to retrieve his children who have gone into the forbidden forest with a deadline that has her entire village's lives on the line, she'll have to outsmart monsters, gods, and pay a price. This is a mixture of a dark fairytale with elements of horror and Alice in Wonderland. The story follows Veris Thorn, the only person to have ever entered the forbidden forest that is ruled by powerful magic, and live. She is now forced to go back in and retrieve the tyrant's missing children and if she fails he'll kill her entire village. Once in the woods she'll be faced by her past demons as well as new gods and monsters who thwart her every attempt to rescue the children and escape. This was definitely an interesting dark fairytale and I appreciate the Alice in Wonderland Horror aspects to it. However, it just felt like it was missing something, I kind of wished it had a better flow and it kind of leaves you with some answered questions and then there was one very triggering moment towards the end that felt so unnecessary and really just threw me off. I kind of wish there was something memorable about this story but it kind of felt bland and I don't think I'll necessarily remember it after reading it. Overall, if you enjoy dark fairytales I think you'll like this and should give it a go.

A dark academia sapphic story with a touch of Carmilla and vampires? I am all in. Saint Perpetua's College is an isolated and old college deep in the hills of Massachusetts and in this school there is a prestigious poetry program lead by a famous writer. Laura Sheridan is a new student who has just been accepted into the poetry program at Saint Perpetua and there she meets the stunning and mysterious Carmilla, a talented poet who has a strangely intimate relationship with their professor, De Lafontaine. Laura and Carmilla become academic rivals yet there is an obsession that is growing between them... and Laura begins to notice the dark obsession between Carmilla and De Lafontaine. The relationship between Carmilla and De Lafontaine is steeped in secrets, blood, and power dynamics. Laura also begins to find herself equally as obsessed with Carmilla as she's drawn into the strange relationship between her and their professor. De Lafontaine has her own secrets and agenda for the girls, but between the three of them, who what will come of their relationship and the obsessions that grow between them. This was a really fun dark academia sapphic story that gave A Lesson in Vengeance vibes (one of my favorite books) and I had a really fun time with this one because I also absolutely adore the Carmilla classic story. This was a fun mix of sapphic relationship, vampires, and dark academia! I would definitely recommend it for fans of the mentioned genres!

This is the first book in the series.
The sequel to The Wicked Bargain following Dami, the genderfluid demon from the first book who wants nothing more than to become fully human. In order to do that Dami must cancel every deal they've ever made as a demon and they have a limited time to get it done. This is going to be tricky because that means unraveling the deal the made with Silas, a young man with a family curse that will cause him to die young without this deal. Dami has to help Silas destroy his family curse by finding lost pirate treasure and in turn they can break the deal they gave Silas and become human. Along for the treasure hunt is Marisol, a young trans woman they meet on the island where they are to find the buried treasure. First of all, I loved the representation in this story. However I found the plot to be so so slow and the I struggled with staying invested in the story. I did like the first book better, and this one had an overall satisfying ending. I liked the friendship and bit of romance in this book but I just wish it was paced better and flowed in a way that would have kept me more invested. Overall if you enjoy queer adventures with magic, friendship, and a bit of romance give this one a go!

The second book in the Rebel Skies fantasy series! We dive back into the world of airships, magic, and shikigamis! Kurara has just escaped from Princess Tsukimi and recovering from her mentor's betrayal. Kurara and her friends are determined to free the shikigami and this quest is only made harder with the possible impending war. She has to find Suzaku, one of the greatest shikigami of all but she's not the only one looking to get to Suzaku. Kurara is put on the spot in this one, especially with secrets of her own past being revealed and so many dark twists are in stored for her and her friends. This one is the second book in the series and from the way it ends, there will definitely be more books. Unfortunately, I think this will be the last one for me, I really tried to like this one and was hoping the second book would capture my attention more but I just found myself not caring all that much and trying to read to get to the end. i definitely think this was more of a "its me not you" thing and that young adult readers who are fans of Studio Ghibli and fantasy/steampunk worlds, would enjoy this series for sure though.

A girl connected to the sea finds herself setting sail to find her mother's secrets... and facing love, betrayal, and discovering who she really is. This is the first book in a series and follows Mira, a wrecker who plunders ship wrecks to make money just like her mother did before her mother died at sea. She lives on the remote isle of Rosevear but when the Council wants to put an end to the wrecking they arrest Mira's father to make an example of him and he is heading towards the noose unless she can save him. Along the way she makes a deal with the mysterious wreck survivor Seth, who has secrets surrounding him and lies on his tongue. Mira has no choice but to trust Seth yet finds herself drawn to him and falling for him... yet one lesson she is about to learn the hard way is that sometimes you have to be careful who you can trust and she's going to need all her wits about her to survive the betrayals that await her at sea. This book unfortunately was a let down for me. I had really high hopes and was so excited for a fun pirate/magic story with romance and adventure. The romance was NOT IT AT ALL, seriously, do yourself a favor and skip this one if you are looking for a good romance. Mira is the most annoying and naive protagonist I have come across in a while. It was so hard to get across this book because every time I would start reading, I would just want to close it and walk away from it. Mira comes off like a naive high schooler and honestly her survival instincts are pretty...bare to none. I just, don't see myself finishing this series and the way this one ends sets it up for the next book. So while this one was a miss for me, I would say if you enjoy younger YA books with romance and quests, maybe give this one a go, maybe you'll have a better time with it than I did.
