He's a Duke who's only real passion is chemistry and she's the Diamond of the season, they're exact opposites but find themselves thrown together when they accidentally swap dogs and now they're facing a dognapping, unexpected feelings, and relentless suitors. Michael Bromley is the Duke of Woriton and is only interested in chemistry, he doesn't really care for ladies or gambling, but when his aunt asks him to take care of her poodle, Lancelot, while she's on vacation he agrees. Elizabeth "Bitsy" Dockering is the beautiful daughter of a viscount, she's extremely popular and in her second Season in London, and has tons of suitors who would do anything for her. Elizabeth's true love is her poodle Galahad, but Galahad really really is troublesome and hard to handle, and to everyone else he's a demon. Michael and Bitsy run into each other when Galahad runs into Lancelot, and they both end up swapping their dogs by accident. One of Bitsy's suitors is tired of how much trouble Galahad is and hires a thief to steal the dog so he can pursue Bitsy, the only problem is that he didn't realize the dogs had been swapped and he accidentally stole Lancelot instead. Bitsy and Michael must now work together to find their dogs, figure out who would do this, and work out the growing feelings between them despite their rocky first meeting. This book really was not for me, I had hoped it would be a fun and cute historical rom com but it had really missed the mark and I found myself struggling to read it through til the end. Bitsy is an annoying, spoiled, and unlikable protagonist, she does grow by the end but honestly, I did not like her at all. I didn't feel the chemistry between Michael and Bitsy at all and honestly, would have preferred if they just ended up as friends. Michael had more chemistry with chemistry then he had with Bitsy. I wasn't that invested in the story or the characters and didn't care much for this book at all. While this one didn't work for me if you enjoy historical rom coms with dognapping and multiple POVS, and a opposites attracts couple, give this a go, maybe it'll work out better for you then it did for me.

A girl is forced to uncover her family's dark secrets when her mother dies and leaves her with more questions and answers, however will the answers she find be worth it? Harlow has lived a life on the run with her mom for as long as she can remember. Her mother always moving them from one place to the next, telling Harlow to never look back and that "they" were after her. Yet when a fatal car accident kills her mother and her mother's dying words are telling her to go to a mysterious lockbox and get help from her family, Harlow is baffled because she assumed she never had family other than her mother. Harlow now is lead down a path going through her family's history, moving into a home and town she never knew, and facing the secrets her mother has kept hidden all these years. Yet the more Harlow learns the more she begins to question whether or not this is the family she had been hoping to find. Sometimes the answers you seek are not the ones you want but they're the only ones there are. This one is a small town mystery read and it felt really slow. Unfortunately I was expecting more thriller or spookiness to it, and the book absolutely starts off with a bang and intrigues you, but it just got slower and slower and I found myself getting bored with the mystery. Sadly, this one missed the mark for me and I just found myself not caring that much. The final twist and reveal left a lot to be desired and I just couldn't care for the outcome, I was just glad to have made it to the end of the book. Overall, if you like slow family mysteries then this one is the perfect one for you!

Sometimes all it takes is just a little patience and something magical can happen. When a little girl gets an avocado seed she learns about patience and wonder as she watches it grow. This was such a sweet story about the wonders of plants and the joy of seeing a plant you grow yourself get bigger and bigger. Since this is inspired by the artist's own childhood, this was even cuter. The artwork was adorable and I think this would be a great read for young readers!

A new fantasy romance featuring a new take on a few of the classic fairytales while following the journey of one girl as she tries to change her fate, save her mother, and discover romance she never expected, all the while trying to escape death. Clara has known all her life that she was destined to die, ever since she was young and her grandmother read her fortune, Clara knew she was connected to the deadly Forest Grimm and that she would die by a fanged creature. When Clara's mother suddenly disappears Clara is willing to do anything to get her back. Clara leaves in a world where there is the Forest Grimm and a magical book called Sortes Fortunae, the Book of Fortunes, which has the power to reverse the curse that has been set on her village and allow her to save her mother. The Forest Grimm has become deadly after a evil wish was made by someone to the Sortes Fortunae, and now the book itself has become lost, and in order to reverse the curse on the village, someone will have to find the book. Clara has only one goal in mind: find her mother, but that means venturing into the deadly forest which has been killing people and driving them mad. Along for the journey is her childhood friend Axel, a handsome and charming boy who is determined to find his fiancee who disappeared into the forest the day before their wedding. Henni, Axel's fiancee's sister and Clara's best friend also comes along, hoping to get her sister back. The trio venture into the woods in hopes of breaking the curse and finding those they lost, yet the forest is dangerous and the tensions rise. Will what they find kill them or are will they be able to survive? Clara has a curved spine and it was a nice little detail to add in, however if I'm being honest she was a bit annoying. Axel on the other hand also was a bit irritating, the romance kind of comes out of nowhere but then he explains everything and I guess I understand, but honestly it just didn't feel that organic or well, romantic. Henni was the worst of the bunch, for someone claiming to be Clara's best friend she was just a hindrance during the entire journey. The story itself had a bit of odd pacing and a lot of the character decisions were not the best, but I want to say it's because they are teens.... but still. The ending leaves way for the sequel (but it can also be read as the end since it wraps up in a nice way). I am interested in seeing where the second book goes and how the characters grow from here. I did find the unique twist on fairy tales a fun thing about this book and would say, if you're a fan of young adult fantasy romances with fairytale twists, give this a go, it definitely would be for you!

Spoiler
Clara discovers that the red rampion plant allows her to enter into the forest so she takes Axel with her but then Henni follows them. Axel and Clara's feelings for each other awaken and then it is revealed that Axel broke off his relationship with his fiancee Ella on the night before their wedding because he's been in love with Clara the whole time. He feels guilty for breaking it off so he hasn't told anyone and makes it seem like he's the dedicated fiancee to her family and wants to find her. When they do find Ella she's basically become a mad version of Cinderella and was poisoning people. They also find another missing villager named Fiora who has been killing people with her hair (she's the rapunzel), and then Clara discovers that her grandmother is the Grimm Wolf ( essentially she can transform into a wolf and since Clara wears a red cape shes the little red riding hood story). They also encounter two kids who are Hansel and Gretel who have been eating people. Clara finds the book and finds her mom who has become a vampire and she ends up killing her mom and escaping the forest with Axel and Henni. The story ends with Axel and Clara getting together and Henni getting a new prophecy from the Book of Fortune which would mean that the trio would have to venture back into the forest, i.e. this is the opening to the sequel book). Also the curse is broken for most of the villagers but the book is missing a page still.*Thanks Netgalley and St. Martin's Press, Wednesday Books for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
When staying with her aunt, a eleven-year-old girl discovers that there are talking cats next door and they want her to help them harness the magic that made then that way! Elsby has to stay with her great-aunt Verity when her mother is busy traveling for a new art installation job. Upon arrival Elsby spots a strange cat, a cat that is fully dressed in clothes that is similar to Beatrix Potter characters and walking on its two feet! Elsby soon discovers that living next door to her is a family of magical talking cats who need her help to get groceries and do errands because their only human friend who use to help them has died. Elsby also discovers that the cats are all under a magical spell and if they dont renew the spell they won't be able to maintain their form... but there is a price and when Elsby discovers the price it might be too late. This was such a fun middlegrade novel featuring talking cats, friendship, magical adventure, and just a cozy read! I think it definitely should be added onto a autumn or cozy tbr!

A young woman in training to become an immortal warrior must lead a hero to glory... but what she doesn't expect is the forbidden love that awaits her and the price of glory. Reed was a young girl when her entire family was slaughtered, but she was taken in by two immortal warriors who saw that she was touched by the goddess of glory. She was taken in to train to become an Aristene, an order of mythical female warriors who help guide heroes to become immortalized legends, they are Heromakers. Reed has been training and counting down the days until her trial is over and she can become a sister of the order. Yet when her trial begins and she meets her chosen hero, a arrogant but handsome prince who wants something other than glory, her heart. Reed has to find a way to bring glory to her hero, but the price she'll have to pay will be between what her heart wants and what her future holds. This is the first book in a duology but the way the first book ends you could just leave it at that. The book has a bit of an odd pacing because it starts off really slow and then picks up around the 60% mark and the ending is kind of : eh. I am intrigued by the Aristene order and the relationship between Reed and her two mentors, their relationship and interactions were the best part of the book. I didn't care for the romance and honestly didn't mind the third act breakup after everything. I am interested in seeing how the second book ends the series and what happens to Reed after how this book ended. This book is a great read for fans of hero adventures with a bit of star crossed lovers and war/hero journeys.

Reed and Hestion fall for each other but she ends up giving up her role in the order to be with him and she defies the glory she saw for him because she saw that if he fights against the evil ruler he would die, so instead during the battle she gives the weapon to his brother who then kills the ruler and is killed in turn. Hestion knows she defied the fate and that she got his brother killed and breaks off their relationship. Reed then returns to the order and decides to go through with the ritual (that she has to kill herself to be reborn as an immortal warrior)*Thanks Netgalley and HarperCollins Children's Books, Quill Tree Books for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

A absolutely delightful and romantic story about the bad boy who need’s his reputation fixed and his best friend’s sister who definitely is going to sweep him off his feet. Ziggy is the youngest player in her National soccer team, she’s the baby of the family, and she is constantly being overlooked, babied, and underestimated. Ziggy wants nothing more than to be seen, she needs a change, and after a run in with her brother’s best friend, the handsome bad boy and hockey player, Sebastian, Ziggy knows he’s the right person to turn to for help. Sebastian is a great hockey player, yet his lifestyle isn’t so great, after a childhood that left him with scars he’s now turned to alcohol, excess, and just anyway to misbehave... yet his latest stunt has his career in jeopardy and he needs an image change immediately if he wants to keep his career. Suddenly Ziggy, the one person he’s sworn that he would stay away from is at his door and offering to help him fix his reputation if he helps her fix his... by pretending to be friends. Sebastian has promised himself that he would keep his hands off of Ziggy, the gorgeous sibling of his best friend, yet the more time he spends with her the more he is completely thrown off by just how absolutely loving and caring she is. What starts off as fake friendship soon turns into something very real as Sebastian and Ziggy both face their own difficulties and support each other. This was an utterly heartwarming and super sweet story, I had so much fun reading it and getting to see them fall in love was AMAZING. I adored how caring and supportive they were of each other, how empathic and communicative they were about their needs and feelings. Seriously this book is perfection! *Thanks Netgalley and Chloe Liese for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
