The daughter of a wealthy hotel owner finds herself talking shelter in the mysterious Hotel Houdini... that will trap her in it forever if she doesn't find a way out before midnight, and she'll have to get the help of a mysterious boy out of time and find the key to free the trapped magical being in the basement, can she make it out in time? Anna has a plan, she's been meticulous about what her life is going to be but when her father usurps those plans in the middle of her sister's wedding, Anna decides to leave only to find herself in the middle of a raging storm and decides to take shelter in a hotel she's never seen before, the Houdini. The Houdini is nothing like she ever expected, especially since Anna is discovering from the mysterious boy named Max who most definitely is not from her time, that if she doesn't make it out by midnight she'll be trapped here forever like he is. Can they both work together to solve the mystery and escape the Houdini? This read very much more like a young young adult novel, it definitely could be middle-grade I think. It felt so much younger than other young adult novels. I didn't really feel the connection/romance between Max and Anna, and honestly the constant back and forth POVs between Max, Anna, Phoebe, Daniel, and etc was just a lot. The story was simple but just didn't really feel that magical or fun. The premise was intriguing and then it kind of just didn't really entice me as much as I had hoped it would. Overall, if you like simple mystery/quest stories then definitely give this a go!

When a teen girl is forced to spend a summer at her aunt's strange small town, she soon finds herself the unwilling sacrifice to the mysterious monster in the woods in a ritual that the town holds... but she won't go down without a fight and if it means striking a deal with the demon and seeking her revenge, then so be it. Latavia is forced to spend the summer in her aunt's home in Sanctum, Alabama, and this small town has it's own rules: don't go outside after dark, come straight home after church, and never enter into the Red Wood. If these rules are broken, things will get bad... and Latavia notices that three funerals in such a small town in such a short period is very strange.... but then when she discovers the town's dark secret and is forced to be a sacrifice for the monster in the Red Wood to appease a deal that was struck, she won't go do willingly, instead she makes a deal with the snake demon, if she helps him he will help her get revenge against the six people who made her a sacrifice.... but this deal will turn her into something she never thought she could become. Who can she trust and how far will she go through for her revenge? This definitely read more younger young adult but overall it was a fun book for spooky season that I would recommend, it gave a bit of stephen king vibes and I think the best part of the book was the relationship between Latavia and the snake demon! If you enjoy a bit of deals with demons vs small town evils, and a touch of sapphic romance, then give this one a go!

When a librarian and her childhood crush turned enemy, a mean vengeance-seeking mogul are forced to finally face their past and the brewing feelings between them, can they finally work it out or will a more sinister element destroy any chance of a relationship between then? Lucian Rollins has made it his life's goal to move on from his abusive father's shadow and become a wealthy vengeance-seeking mogul who has made himself cold and ruthless, he never wants to be vulnerable and out of control again, except he just can't seem to do that when in the presence of a certain busty and perky librarian who gets under his skin like no one else. Sloane Walton loves her job, she loves her friends and family, but who she doesn't love is Lucian "Lucifer" Rollins who hates her. Sloane is a librarian who's beloved father has just passed and now she's dealing with the grief of his loss and the fact that she wants to start a family of her own, yet she can't seem to get away from her childhood crush turned enemy after she betrayed him when they were teens and now he's determined to hate her. Lucian and Sloane are forced to spend time together because they share the same friends but also because Lucian is close to Sloane's parents, as if they were his home, yet Lucian has never forgiven Lucy for betraying him and now years later they still can't stand one another. Yet when Sloane's own life is threatened, Lucian will do whatever it takes to protect her, even if it means leaving the one person who's stolen his heart, yet it definitely will be impossible. What started off as a only physical relationship soon becomes more, but can Sloane handle Lucian if he leaves her again, and can Lucian finally admit that he's been in love with her this entire time?? This one was definitely a long read, like its 500 pages of yearning and back and forth, the banter between them was great, but it took over 200 pages for me to actually like Lucian at all. He definitely gets better by the end and you can kind of get where he's coming from but geez. Sloane was a great protagonist, I really did adore her. Overall, it's a fun read and if you enjoy the friends to enemies to lovers trope, the grumpy x sunshine, and such, then this is for you!

Forbidden magic, a mysterious boy, family secrets, and a love that would crash into her life like the waves that she dives into. Mortana Fairchild is a witch, she lives on an island that is home to both witches and mainlanders who think witches are a threat and in order to maintain the alliance her marriage to the governor's son, Landon, will secure the alliance between witches and mainlanders alike. Tana's life has been planned all along and she's been raised to put duty and her coven before her own happiness... yet on a mysterious night she meets a strange handsome witch named Wolfe who will shake her foundations and beliefs in everything she was raised to, starting with the fact that he practices high tide magic, or what she was lead to believe was dark magic and that the deadly flowers her mother told her about is actually note deadly at all. Tana and Wolfe have a connection despite the fact that they are from opposing covens, they find themselves constantly drawn back to each other, but the more time they spend together the more Tana is beginning to realize that her coven's secrets and her own family's secrets might not be worth sacrificing everything, particularly her own happiness because Wolfe makes her want to be selfish for the first time in her life. Yet Wolfe has his own motives, and when his secret gets out, it might destroy the blossoming relationship between him and her. Can Tana decide what path to follow: her duty or her heart? Will she marry the governor's son or the boy who has crashed into her life? This was such a captivating and wonderful story. I had the pleasure of meeting Rachel and hearing her talk about how she wrote Tana and Wolfe's love story to be a bit like Morticia and Gomez, completely fits. I adored this boo so much, it just captures you and sweeps you along and you feel yourself entranced until the very end. It's a lush atmosphere, a gorgeous love story, and just so beautiful!

The heartfelt journey told in verse of a girl who moves from her home in the Philippines to the U.S. and her attempts of fitting in and finding her own place, through the nourishment and growth of a special garden. Isabel has lived her whole life in the Philippines but when her mother gets a job in the US and moves her there with her, her entire world is changed as she is forced to try and understand a culture she knows nothing about and try and fit in. From learning to make new friends to finding her own space where she can be herself and find connection, this is a wonderful book. I really felt for Isabel and her journey of trying to assimilate and find her own space in a whole new culture was really interesting to read. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants to read a really heartwarming story! The novel-in-verse format of this book was really interesting and it brings you a little closer to Isobel's thoughts and feelings. Overall, a really great read.

Enemies to lovers in this cute soccer romance inspired by Ted Lasso! Oliver Bergman is a rising soccer star, he's always a ball of sunshine and smiles and is the heart of the team's spirit. The only problem is that he just can't seem to get his idol and captain of his team, Gavin, to actually like him. Oliver is still reeling from a disastrous past relationship and has made it a rule to never get into a relationship with another person on his team. Yet he can't seem to fight his attraction to his misanthropic and grumpy captain. When Oliver is made co-captain with Gavin, things only ramp up ( it doesn't help that they are neighbors). Gavin was Oliver's first big crush and awakening into being queer, yet the reality of Gavin has been a bit of a let down. Ten years his senior, Gavin Hayes is a legendary soccer player and a demanding captain. He's misanthropic, grumpy, and a loner. The moment he met Oliver, Gavin knew they couldn't be friends because when he's not annoying him, Oliver is tempting him. When they are made co-captains, the hostility between them rises, and sick with it, their Coach gives them an ultimatum: they have to end their enmity or say goodbye to being captain. Oliver and Gavin begin to get to know each other better and realize that the chemistry between them is definitely there and that they both feel it. Can these two make it work or are they just too different? Reading in the author note that Oliver was a character inspired by Ted Lasso's spirit and that Gavin was inspired by Roy Kent, it definitely can be seen that way. Overall it was a really cute soccer romance and I had fun with it!

Ellie is in debt, just let go of from her job, and on the verge of eviction, yet when she walks into a fight between a guy with a pumpkin for a head and a beast, she helps out, and accidentally summons her own psychic powers, which she never knew she had. The next thing she knows she is being recruited and given a job as partner to Ichabod, the Pumpkin-headed boss of the Paranormal Detective Agency. Now her entire life is turned upside down as she enters into a world of monsters, magic, and more, but hey at least she can make rent right? This was a fun comic and the perfect addition to your autumn tbr. The first volume ends on a cliffhanger but it'll definitely have you looking forward to what's next for Ellie and Ichabod as they fight monsters and solve cases!

The women of the Flores family are gifted with magical abilities, and after the death of her sister, Sage Flores is forced to return home to face the broken relationship with her other sister and come face to face with the boy who broke her heart 14 years ago. After losing her job, Sage is forced to return home to the family she ran from after her younger sister Sky died. Now she's seeing Sky's ghost who tells her that the only way to help her is if Sage heals the broken relationship with her other younger sister Teal, who blames her for Sky's death. Sage takes up a job at the Cranberry Rose Company, where she uses her gifts over plants to help discover unusual heritage specimens.... except she is being forced to partner up with Tennessee Reyes, the very same boy who broke her heart 14 years ago after they built up a strong relationship through AIM messages (think along the lines of Hilary Duff's Cinderella). Tenn never realized it was Sage and she ghosted him after he broke her heart, now years later they are forced to work together and the chemistry is still there... and Tenn is asking for her help in finding his mystery AIM girl... will she finally tell him the truth? All the while she is also dealing with family drama, from her younger sister Teal's anger at her ( think along the lines of 27 Dresses sister's relationship) and her own family secrets that could unravel everything. This book was a lot and it definitely read more Young Adult rather than reading about people in their late 20's early 30s. Sage felt like she was an 18 year old girl rather than a 29 year old woman. Also the misunderstanding trope in this one was ugh, seriously, and the fact that Sage purposely lied and continued to lie to Tenn throughout their relationship was infuriating. Teal got on my nerves and her only real personality trait was irrational anger. When you find out the real misunderstanding and reveal of what happened between Tenn and Sage in highschool that leads to Sage's lying, it's just so frustrating. Overall, this one just wasn't for me at all. I really tried to like it but it just fell flat for me. I didn't care much for the romance, which barely felt there, and the characters were also barely likable. If you are a fan of family drama and misunderstanding tropes, then give this one a go, maybe you'll have a better time with it than I did!
