I absolutely loved the previous works by this author and from this excerpt of her newest I am already excited to fall in love with another one of her works. I am really intrigued by the plot and the characters. I really like her writing style and can't wait to read the full and completed version of this!

A funny and great story about a garden contest being sabotaged by liter! It’s a cute story that shows the consequences of littering and how important it is to try and conserve our oceans~! Plus it has a fun story about two lobsters who are competing for the best garden! The artwork is absolutely adorable and I think this would make a great read for kids!

A great book on facing grief and understanding it. This illustrated book features many exercises that help you open up to grief and learn how to deal with it. I found this to be an excellent manual and all the exercises to be really helpful.

A girl with magical gifts from a secret blood line and a second in line prince who doesn’t want to sit on cross path in this story of forbidden romance, magic, and political intrigue. The story follows Maralyth, a vintner’s daughter who has always been blessed with gifts she had to keep hidden. She is kidnapped one day and told that her magical powers are proof of her secret bloodline, a bloodline that claims she is the proper heir to the throne and can fix the rampant magic running around the kingdom. She is forced to infiltrate the kingdom but finds herself constantly around the king’s second son, Alac. Alac has always feared magic and never wanted to be on the throne, yet one day his father leaves him a locket and tells him that it is filled with magic and that it will protect him should his brother die. Alac and Maralyth find that they just can’t keep away from one another and the budding relationship between them, yet how can they ever hope to make it out if they’re secrets and political assassinations are surrounding them. This was a fun read and I really enjoyed it! I loved that you go to read from both of the character’s POVs and I enjoyed the light romance. The magic and political intrigue was a nice touch and this was an overall really fun magical book!!!

“Other families might have stories of curses, cold lads and white ladies, but we have old gods, merfolk, and monsters” (p. 29)
“He says he loves me. But I am wary of love. He says he needs me. And I am weary of need. He is hurt when I don’t reply in kind; I’ve been finding he’s easily hurt. But he is gentle so I say something I hope he will one day understand. ‘I don’t need you,’ I saw, ‘I want you. That should be enough. That should be better because it means I’ve made a choice.’ Perhaps one day he will understand” (p. 289)
A family crumbling, a debt that is owed, and the last blood heir struggling to not only survive her family’s dark traditions but to gain her own freedom and unearth the secrets of her family. The story follows the O’Malley family, once filled with riches, but the secret to their wealth was sacrificing a child from each generation to the merfolk in exchange. The family is growing smaller and smaller, with each generation slowly dwindling and not paying the merfolk they have become poor and in debt. Miren is the last O’Malley child, though barely with enough blood. Her grandmother hopes to sell her into an arranged marriage, with or without her consent, in order to rebuild the riches of the O’Malley family and force her to have children to pay back the merfolk and restore their family glory, Miren has other plans. Throw in family secrets, the pains of tradition, murder, and a girl who will stop at nothing to gain her freedom. This is a beautiful grim and gothic fairy tale filled with magical creatures, strong women, and dark family secrets. I loved Miren as a protagonist. She was strong and silent, her rage simmering, her will power and her strength to do whatever it took to just be left alone and at peace. She clawed her way to her freedom and she would not let anyone control her. This was a magical story and one that blew my expectations.

Megabat and Daniel are back for another adventure! It is Daniel’s birthday and Megabat wants to join but things start to get out of hand fast. This was a super cute story in the Megabat and Daniel book series. It’s a sweet story about celebrating your birthday and how sometimes our intentions can get a little out of hand. Overall, a really fun and cute read!

A reimagining of the classic Sleeping Beauty story told from the perspective of her little sister, Briony. All her life Briony has been stuck being in her sister’s shadow. When the curse finally happens and when everyone is awoken again, things are not as they seem. The “prince” is not a prince and has many secrets, the curse is still happening and trapping everyone inside the castle, and fairies are at war with one another. This was an interesting take on the original story but I found that I really disliked the characters and I just wanted the book to end. By the end, everything wraps up fine. This is a book in a series of retellings.

What happens your boyfriend is a new minted god and the only way to be with him means you have to go on a quest yourself in order to become a god? Well, Megara is about to find out. The story follows the evens right after the disney movie, except now Zeus is bot allowing Meg and Herc to be in a relationship and Hera offers her a chance, go on a quest and prove herself worthy enough to become a god. Said quest involves facing the ex that she sold her soul off to and rescuing the soul of his wife. The entire story is just about getting to know Meg more, particularly her coldness and detachment from relationships.... I understand that it was scaring for her but goodness gracious it felt as if it was a one sided love story with Herc. He was supportive and sweet and Meg was... angry and distant. The book really delves into Meg’s past romantic relationship and how much she is still hurting from it. I loved Meg in the movies, she was sassy, morally gray, and a great character, but for some reason the book just didn’t capture her that well, and I found myself disliking her. The star of this book for me though was.... WE GOT PERSEPHONE AND HADES!!!! I would love an entire book on their relationship. I absolutely ADORED IT!! The tiny bits with them made me give the book an entire extra star, in fact I would love just a book about their relationship... seriously the cover of this book made me think there would be more Hades in here. Anyways, this was an interesting look into Meg, but more specific into Hades and Persephone.
