You ever get the feeling when you finish a book that the story will stay with you for a lifetime? That’s how I feel about this book. Told from 2 different perspectives and time periods, the author wove a beautiful story of a granddaughter coming to terms with who her grandmother was and finding what her ancestry really means to her.
HELL. There’s a reason this book won all those awards. I read like 90% of it in one sitting. So, so good.
This book was so adorable. It’s a loose modern-day Cinderella retelling.
All of the characters in this book were extremely well developed in each of their personalities. Chris was an easy POV to read from. He is an underdog you can’t help but root for.
Coco was hilarious, and even the step family were all strangely more likable as the story progressed.
The book had amazing LGBTQ representation. While it was funny, it also had messages of self-love & acceptance.
One thing I didn’t like was Chris & J.J. sneaking around Kimberly’s back, thats the one thing that kept me from giving it 5 ⭐️. I just feel like that story has been done a lot in YA LGBTQ books.
Overall it was a funny, light & easy read.
