It’s killing me to only give this book 3 stars since I had really, really, really high hopes for this. A historical fiction book about one of the worlds’ most famous families? Sign me up.

Kick is the lesser-known Kennedy, since her life was so short. Maher delivers a glimpse into London society before and during WWII. This book was kind of a slow read and I thought it dragged on a bit. It took me a while to get into it and almost a full month to read, which is why I only gave it 3 stars.

It is a reimagining of true events and a lot of famous names turn up throughout the book. It also touches on what happened to Rosemary Kennedy.

I already knew how Billy and Kick’s relationship ended and I really wished this book wasn’t dragged out so much and that it continued Kick’s story until the end of her life.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I didn’t love it like I hoped I would. Any historical fiction fans would like this book.

“Remember, when they call you a girl, they’re trying to tell you something. They’re trying to tell you that they’re more than you, that the body you’re in makes you less. But you know, and I know, that you’re exactly where you need to be.”

This book was AMAZING. it was a fun, action packed, and fast paced read start to finish. It’s basically an all female Pirates of the Caribbean. Caledonia wants to avenge her family after they are killed by a ruthless warlord. She is a relatable character, however, I was really frustrated with some of her choices, especially the one she made at the end of the book. I don’t want to spoil how it ends, but I thought she was a little selfish since she spends the whole story preaching sisterhood and loyalty with her crew. Overall i really enjoyed reading this and I can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy to see how the story develops.

“Just because I studied cadavers didn’t mean I couldn’t appreciate beautiful garments.”

Murder mysteries aren’t really my thing because I find them too predictable and similar, but I really enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It’s like a murder mystery meets Frankenstein. The ending was still kinda predictable. I figured out who Jack was about 75% of the way through the book. This is also not a story for the weak stomached as there are a few autopsy and crime scenes described in detail and as Jack escalates the murders get more gruesome. Overall it was a good thriller, I just wish I didn’t figure out the ending.
