This brought back so many memories in all the right ways.

Special thanks to NetGalley for the Arc of this book.

After hearing about this book on Anne Bogel's Podcast "What Should I Read Next", I knew I had to check this book out. The premise of this book sounded so good. An author who's in an extreme writing slump hears a story idea from one of his students at a writing workshop. Years pass and out of curiosity, our main character looks up the student to see if his novel was ever finished. Turns out the student passed away before he could ever publish the idea. Deciding not to let such a good idea go to waste, our failing author writes the story himself and it becomes an instant bestseller. But when he receives a mysterious email calling him a thief, he investigates.

I was ready to get my socks knocked off. Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. While I enjoyed the twists and turns, the first 80% of this book makes it hard to reach them. The writing came off as pretentious and flowery to me, with our narrator sounding like he was better than everyone else. The entire first chapter was an info dump of our main character and his writing career.

While this book wasn't for me, it may be for you! Check it out on May 11th when it releases.

THEY NEVER LEARN had such an interesting premise to me. It gave off Dexter vibes with a cool feminine twist. However, this book fell short for me in the delivery.

Let me start with the things I liked. I really enjoyed the idea of a female serial killer. Female serial killers are a bit of a rarity, so when I heard this book had a female serial killer I just had to pick it up. The writing itself was beautiful. Everything flowed rather nicely. And the plot twist thay occurs about halfway through the book really blew me away. I had to put down the book because I needed a moment to process the amazing twist.

However, this book is not without its flaws. One thing I didn’t enjoy was how EVERY single male character is either a jerk or some kind of sexual predator. I feel like every male character in this book tried to force themselves on either our main character, or someone close to the main character, throughout the duration of this book. Another thing that bothered me was how many love/lust interest the main character has. We have her roommate, her roommates male friend, her teacher, her graduate student, and one of her victim’s ex-wife. I get that Scarlett has a hard time locking her feelings in place due to her violent nature, but we would jump from kissing Allison one moment to imagining kissing Wes in a matter of pages.

While I like how the ending tied everything up, I didn’t necessarily like how certain characters reacted to circumstances

I was a huge fan of No Exit, so when I heard Taylor Adams was releasing a new book I knew I had to check it out. Luckily for me, NetGalley has this book available to read now. Once I picked it up, it was hard to stop. Adams knows how to hook you with the suspense. All the twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. If you are looking for a fast-paced, can’t-put-downable thriller, this book is for you.
