I really was looking forward to an "after" for the chosen ones. The concept was super interesting.
I did find the story a bit slow, and I found some of the characters really frustrating.
The book did pick up near the end, and I enjoyed the last part of the book. I did find the ending a bit unsatisfying, but overall, I enjoyed this book.

I really liked this one!
I found the mystery engaging, and while it seems to be a common view to dislike Tempe, I actually really like her! I enjoy her thoughts about others, and even if I don't agree with her all the time, I understand her.
I think a lot of the problem is people come into this expecting it to be like the show, and it really is its own thing entirely, and I found I was really able to enjoy that when I took it as its own thing. The main character's name is the only real similarity. Even her character is completely different, but it isn't bad. Just different.

I enjoyed this book like I enjoy almost all of Kathy Reichs books, but I did find it less engaging. For me, a lot of my rating comes from how hard the book was to put down and there were points I had to push myself to keep reading. It wasn't bad, but it did lose my interest a bit. A lot of it comes down to the murder mystery in the books, but I also like seeing bits of her personal life too. This one felt like it just wasn't as fun to read as previous in the series.

I think this was one of my favourites of her books so far! I am working my way through the series. I have a huge interest in Anthropology, and while I didn't get to pursue my masters like I wanted, I really enjoyed the forensic anthropology classes I took, and it was really fun to see the explanations and terms and recognize them from my schooling.
The mystery in this one really had me wanting to keep reading to the next page to find out what happened. I also really loved the back and forth in "present day" and "past."
There were also some fun moments outside of the case too! Getting to see Ryan's interactions with her ex in laws was quite something.

I think maybe this book wasn't my thing!
I enjoyed a lot of the story telling but was confused by several points. There were a lot of plot holes and inconsistencies.
How did he touch blood, and think it was a "different wetness" and not at all notice the blood on his hands? Where did it go?
Maybe I'm also not a fan of the unreliable narrator style, but the plot twist was jarring. There was no foreshadowing that I noticed. It seemed to be just thrown in for the sake of a plot twist without any real forethought.
I did like the writing style, and it was an engaging and addictive read despite what I didn't like about it.

I absolutely loved this book! I was looking for a break from my usual and longer series I’m doing and this book was perfect.
I love the main character and her development. I also love the side characters and I’m a sucker for a found family trope so I was definitely a fan of that.
I was anxious to see how everything worked out so I kept reading and hard a hard time putting it down.

I really loved this book! I’m a sucker for books about trials and this one definitely was a winner for me! While a lot of it was predictable, it was still satisfying to read and I enjoyed it a lot.

I had fun reading this one! The mystery was interesting, and as usual, I loved a lot of Tempe's comments and views on things. She really seems to care and is compassionate about finding justice for the victims, and I really like that in her character.
The on and off again thing in her personal love life is getting a bit tiring, but I still enjoy the characters, and enjoyed the book.

I really, really loved this book! It was addicting to read, and also powerful. I felt so many emotions while reading this, and I felt so tense at points waiting to see what happened.
I also really enjoyed the different characters and the dimensions to them. It was interesting seeing how similar situations affected people differently, and I really saw a lot of growth to the main character.
The way the plot is unfolding is really interesting, and I am really looking forward to get to read the next book!

Absolutely loved this one! It was intense, and brutal at points.
I found the main character frustrating at points, but also I understood why he felt the way he did and why he did the things he did.
The plot was really interesting, and this feels different than other fantasy I've read which is a nice change of pace!
I am really excited to continue with the story.
