I'm not super familiar with Ali Wong's comedy since I've only seen her in Always Be My Maybe, and from this book I don't think I'd be super interested in watching her standup (I'm not a big fan of comedy involving bodily fluids, tbh).

I liked this for the most part, and the concept was cool. I liked that she was writing to her daughters in the future and giving them advice while at the same time talking about her family's past and her own experiences learning about her parents' cultures and growing up in the US as an Asian American person. Although given how much she tells in some of these stories, I can't imagine her daughters actually reading this book... (Personally, if I knew all this stuff about my own mom, I would die of embarrassment, but that's just me.)

I also liked the last chapter where their dad, Justin, offers his perspective of his and Ali's relationship. It was very sweet and it was cool to see how much of their stories of their early relationship aligned with each other. My advice for their daughters would be to just read dad's chapter if they want to avoid embarrassment 😂

Although I do have to say it's super weird reading this book knowing Ali and Justin got divorced last year given how much of it is about how much they love each other and how great they fit together and how they both feel like they found their perfect person 😬 And Ali even makes a joke about them getting divorced in the very beginning of the book that definitely did not age well. I know relationships change and so many people get divorced now, but it kind of put a sad aura over the whole book for me.

I can't say I'm any more interested in watching Ali's standup than I was before I read this, but I do want to rewatch Always Be My Maybe again, so I'll call that a win 👍🏼
