This was tragic and hard to read, and (surprise!) I did not expect the twist at the end. I knew one was coming because that's the hallmark of a Tiffany D. Jackson book, but man, even knowing it was coming didn't make it less surprising (or painful).
This was so frustrating. Literally nothing happened the first 40% and then I was disappointed by the ending. I think it definitely tried too hard to be philosophical and meaningful and just came off as pretentious. And boring. I really should have stopped reading it because it felt way longer than 236 pages (the end of which is a preview for another book, so it's not even actually THAT long). But I started it on vacation and didn't have anything else to read 😩
Uggghhjhhh I HATE the surprise baby trope!!!
Also this felt like two completely different books. The first half was fun, the second half was ridiculous. No thank you

I went into this not knowing ANYTHING about it (which I never do), and I was taken by surprise so many times, but I honestly think that's the best way to read this book.
This was a strange, monstrous look at grief and the loss of a child, and it was really really good.
Some content warnings though. This IS horror so don't be surprised by this, just be careful if you're sensitive to these things:death of a child; gore; blood; body horror; murder; animal death
