I think i need to read the previous books in this series to thoroughly appreciate this one.
It's fast paced and action packed, excellent world building but I think I missed the backstory and I was confused.
It's the book but me. Will try to read the rest of the series and re-review it.

Loved it! Some of my favorite fantasy/sci-fi writers and an original concept.
Even if I'm a not a huge fan of Start Wars I loved how this stories tells a part of the saga according to the different authors.
Not all the stories are at the same level but it was an enjoyable and gripping read.

Ok, let's be clear: this is a great fantasy book.
It's dark, gritty at times and highly entertaining.
A stand-alone story featuring great characters, a very interesting world building a plot that kept me hooked.
The author is a talented storyteller and delivers an excellent story.
It's the first book I read by this author and won't surely be the last.
I would be happy to read other books featuring this world.

This is a very long book but I read it quite fast as it's brilliant, gripping and entertaining.
A books that talks about a complex time in China history and makes you travel in time and space.
A great historical saga that makes you learn something about history while entertaining.
I think that Edward Rutherfurd is a talented storyteller and I love to read the stories he tells.
Excellent character development, well researched and vivid historical background.

This is the first book I read in this series and found it gripping and highly entertaining. As I loved the characters and the setting I will surely read the rest of the series.
It’s a well written police procedural that kept me reading and turning pages. The plot is complex, full of twists and turns, and even if I try to guess the solution the final twists surprised me.
I loved the description of the place, it’s very bucolic but you can feel the evil lurking behind the beautiful setting.
The characters are fleshed and I love Winter Meadows and his teams as they are well rounded and realistic.
It’s a good read that I recommend.

I read quite a lot of books, some are very good and some are average.
I know that some publisher are a guarantee for quality, Quercus Books fantasy books are always innovative and very very good.
When they asked me if I wanted to review this one I had no doubts even if grimdark fantasy is not amongst my favourite genre.
I was wrong. This book is amongst the best I read in 2018: enthralling, fascinating and a real page turner.
It's a sort of noir with a fantasy setting or, if you prefer, a fantasy with noir elements.
"Games of Throne" meets "The Goodfella" and this is their lovechild.
The style of writing is superb, the characters are tridimensional and fascinating. I really liked the female characters, so strong and so human.
There's not a lot of world building, as this is a series I assume it will be developed in the next instalment. The mood is grim, a sort of dark grey atmosphere that reminds me some noir films of the 40s.
The unputdownable rate is very high: the fast paced and fascinating plot keep you hooked till the end and you cannot stop reading as you want to see how the things are developing.
This is a 5* book and is a must read if you want a very good and enjoyable book.

I liked this mix of fantasy and mystery. It was an engrossing and entertaining read that kept me hooked.
The world building is interestesting, the characters fleshed out and the mystery is solid.
I hope to read other books featuring these characters

To be honest I knew very little about Millicent Patrick and this book made me learn a lot about this woman and the world she lived in.
It's an interesting and well researched book.

I love Heidi Swain book and think this is a very good story, heartwarming and engrossing.
I loved fliss and liked how she faced the changes in her life and was able to become part of a new comunity.
The plot is tightly knitted and flows, good character development and a lovely story.
I had just one doubt: how can you become part of a new community and embrace a new way of living as there's a huge cultural difference between Puglia and Uk ?
That's my only doubt as I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.

I found it quite slow at the beginning but I persevered and enjoyed it.
After the first chapter is a gripping and interesting story, a bit creepy, and kept me hooked.
