I am a fan of Ms Lackey and was really happy to receive this book to review. Having read a lot of her books my expectation were quite high and I wasn't disappointed.
A mix of alternate history, Victorian England where magic is real, fantasy and horror where literary characters like Sherlock Holmes cohexists with legendary one like Robin Goodfellow. On the background the lovercraftian Old Ones.
The plot is definitely exciting, once I started I had to read it to the end.
The book is well written, with interesting characters and enough horror side to keep going without causing to much anxiety (I am not a Lovercraft fan).
I would recommend this book to any fantasy lover.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Daw for giving me the chance to review this book.

A wonderful debut, a solid plot, and intriguing characters. A book i would advise to people who are looking for historical fiction with something more. A bit too sedate and emphatic at times but really good on a generale level.
It surely deserves five stars.

A book full of humour and realism. How to manage a library when there are no money ?
Really enjoyable and a lot of fun to read.
And then there's Faulkner the rat ...
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher

A very sweet, sparkling and moving book. I really enjoyed reading it. It also give quite a lot of food for thought regarding old age, retirement, friendship and what it means to be helpful.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin.

I am big fan of Ms Greenwood mysteries and this one is not an exception even if it is a bit less sparkling than others in this series. I really enjoyed it and Ms Fisher is always the same sparkling and clever self.
I would not recommend this book to people who has never read any other book in this series or just seen the TV show.
On a general level a very good mystery.

I work in a high tech company and was delighted to read the description on the high tech world. It was quit realistic. I also really appreciated the idea of a woman in STEM as heroin, first time in a women fiction book.
Add to this that I really like Jane Austen and I can say this was a really good book for me.
The relationship between Mary, the main character, and Isabel, her best friend, was a bit toxic and maybe it would need some more clarification but on a general level this book is really good.

This book starts a bit slowly and then - BANG - you start reading and cannot stop. I am a sucker for senior sleuthing and the cast of senior was really enjoable. On the whole the entire cast of charachters was enjoyable and funny
The plot is interesting and there is also the added bonus of the plot of a historical mystery in the main plot. I really enjoyed both.
It was also a good travel in the grief and how to make your dreams come real.
Cannot wait to read the second instalment in the series.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Kensington book for giving me the chance to review this book.

It was the third John Bude's mystery I read and, as usual, it is really entertaining it has a solid plot. The description of the cultists is really entertaining and the sequence of events that leads to the murders is well written and funny to read.
I would advice this book to whoever is interested in traditional british mysteries.

A very good and solid historical mystery. Set in 1381 it is the 18th instalment in Brother Athelstan but it can be read as a standalone book.
The plot is solid, with a lot of suspense. The historical background is well researched. It was as usual an interesting reading and real page turner

As much as I wanted to like this book I was not able to be involved in the plot and gave up at 20%. There was a lot of possibilities but it just seemed they were at skin level.
