I love Simon Brett and I think he's one of the greatest living mystery writer. This is the last series he developed and deals with with serious topics like mental health, hoarding, and solitude.
This means that the novels can be a light mystery with a darker and more serious side or a dramatic novel with some lighter moments.
This one was an excellent and balanced mix of the above elements and the solid mystery kept me guessing.
I love Ellen and love the empathy of the writer towards the characters and their issues.
A mystery which is thought provoking and entertaining at the same time.
Highly recommended.

Fran and Adam are an unlikely couple of amateur sleuth but their differences and their skills make them a highly effective duo. They're so good that DCI Bradley asked them to investigate on some threat that Miranda Appleby, a tv presenter.
This is the start of the 4th instalment in this series and each one is better than the previous as there's always a variety of settings, type of people and different puzzles to solve.
Miranda wasn't a very nice persone and I loved how Fran and Adam were able to discover the culprit investigating but always being realistic and entertaining at the same.
This unlikely couple is well developed and likeable. Fran's social and culinary skills works well with Adam's technical and logical skill.
This entertaining and compelling story kept hooked and guessing. It's full of unexpected turns and I read it in one evening as I couldn't put it down.
I hope there's going to be a lot of other investigations, this one is highly recommended.

This is the first book I read by Jane Smiley and won't surely be the last because I loved the style of writing and the storytelling.
It was love at first read, I loved these strong women who are on the edge, running away from abuse or finding a way to survive.
There's no moral judgement towards these women, they're well rounded and realistic. I loved the historical background and the solid mystery that kept me guessing.
This is one of the best book I read in 2022, a compelling and enthralling novel.
Highly recommended.

Tessa Wegert writes great thriller and this a very good one: gripping, fast paced, twisty and full of surprises.
Shana Merchant is a well plotted and interesting characters, a strong woman who fights and wants to go on with her life.
The plot is well developed and flows, it kept me on the edge and guessing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved the descriptions of New Orleans and how it talks about living in Big Easy.
That said I loved Valerie and her friends, hated the bad guys and had a lot of fun.
I know I loved a book when i check when a new one will be out and what the author wrote before.
A solid mystery, an entertaining story, a complex plot involving secrets from the past and old family feuds.
Loved the storytelling and the style of writing.
Valerie is a no nonsense woman and doesn't feel the need to risk her life senslessly.
A well plotted and fast paced story, Highly recommended.

This one of the best book i read in 2022, the first I read by this author and won't surely be the last.
This story is a retelling of David Cofferfield and as I read Copperfield once long ago it was like reading a new and exciting story.
There's a a cast of realistic and well plotted characters, there's a plot that kept in thrall and the masterful storytelling
There's a lot of wonderful moments and a great story.
Loved it.
