It was the first book I read by Harlan Coben and I was hooked since I read the first pages.
I'm usually a sort of cozy mystery lover but I couldn't help loving the humour, the fast paced plot, and the amazing style of writing.
I started this book in a sort of "Let's see how it is" mood and I read half the book before realizing it was time for bed, I was swept away and happy to lose myself in this book.
I will surely read other books by this author.
Highly recommended!

I could use a lot of words to describe this book and how much I liked it, a lot of blah blah, but I want to summarize it in few words: it's amazing and gripping.
You will appreciate it if you like police procedural or psychological thriller. Or if you are not a fan of a specific genre but you want to read a book that is well written and keeps you reading as fast as you can.
It's atmospheric, dark, enthralling and emotionally charged. You never know what's going to happen and you're in for some great surprises.
The characters are fleshed out, they're not likable but I couldn't help being attracted to them. They will make you feel a lot of different emotions: from pity to rage.
The plot is complex, fascinating, and gripping; once you get involved in the book you cannot stop reading till the final climax.
The mystery is solid and complex, with a lot of twists and turns, and it keeps you guessing but you never know if you're right or wrong.

I'm alway a bit at loss for words when I have to review a book by a giant of fantasy.
It's been a long time since I read The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant and I was happy to read another book by mr Donaldson.
This book is not an easy read as it's full of characters, different point of views, a complex plot, and a pace that sometimes it's very slow.
Even if there are some issues it's a fascinating read and once you're hooked you cannot put the book down.
It took me sometimes to get involved but I loved what I read and I can surely say this is the work of great fantasy writer.
The world building is amazing, rich of details and it makes you crave for more details and more adventures.

I requested this book because I'm a fan of Douglas Adams and Ben Aaronovitch. Somebody forgot to add Terry Pratchett, Jim Butcher or Kevin Hearne.
Because there are echoes of all these writers in this book, a book that is amazing.
I can use some more adjective it's funny, entertaining, engaging, enthralling. Choose one, all can be used to define how I feel about this book.
I think that characters like Malbus are a stroke of genius, just like nearly all characters in this book.
I read it as fast as I could, I laughed out loud and couldn't put it down.
I can also say that the plot was great and full of great ideas.
As far as I understand this is the first in a series and this makes me happy because it means I just discovered a new amazing series and I hope there will be a lot of installment as funny as this one.
I can't wait to read another book by this author.
