It's more historical fiction than historical romance, an entertaining and compelling read.
I think that Eleanor of Aquitaine is a very fascinating woman and I appreciated the descriptions of her court and the well researched historical background.

An interesting history book about an interesting historical timeframe. It's more about what changed and how people faced it.
I learned something new and found this book highly informative and interesting.

I found the books in this series compelling, entertaining, but also full of food for thought and a good way to learn about the changes in the way of living.
This book is set at the beginning of the 50s and life goes on and there's a lot going on for the characters even if they have to face hardships never losing hope.
Great characters, vivid historical background.
Can't wait to read the next book.
Highly recommended.

It's a fascinating read and I found it riveting and gripping. It wasn't love at first page, it took a me bit to get hooked, but once it happened i couldn't put it down.
Fascinating world building inspired by Scottish lore, good character development and storytelling.
I can't wait to read the next novel.

As a fan of gossip, and story of high society this was the right book for me.
I had a lot of fun in reading this story even if I think I should feel some empathy toward the people involved I shamelessly enjoyed what was happening and the how the scam worked.
On a more serious side it's a story of how apparences can deceive and Anna was the perfect example of a facade that hid something more dangerous.
It's an interesting and gripping read.

It was an entertaining, riveting, and gripping read. I liked the dual timeline, the witty banters, and the fleshed out characters.
The style of writing and the storytelling are excellent and kept me reading.
It's nearly perfect but it was too long and 200 pages less would have made this book perfect.

There's a lot of books about witch hunt and witches in the XVII century, this one was one of the best as both plot and style of writing are brilliant.
You are left wondering what is what, if you are going to read a gothic novel with a rational explanation or a horror novel with paranormal involved.
The characters, the historical background, and the atmosphere are fascinating and I was involved in this story that kept me turning pages.
A great debut, highly recommended.

It was a fascinating read, a bit slow but gripping nonetheless. It's a depiction of Japanese society and good crime mystery at the same time.
i liked the characters and was fascinated by the plot.

Maria Carolina aka Charlotte and Marie Antoinette are two champion of Ancient Regime, two women dead set against any change in the government.
This is what history says and I'm not a fan even if I can see how they were pawns in a political game.
That said I liked this book and this alternate history in a world where magic is real and it's part of a political game.
It's a fascinating and compelling story, I liked the magical system and the historical accuracy.
Neither Charlotte nor Antoine are two likeable characters, they're involved in their games and playing the game of power like most of the character in this book.
The author did a good job in developing the characters and how they lived.
The plot is about intrigue, magic, and power. It's fascinating, detailed, and unusual.
It made me think of a book I loved, A Declaration of the Right of Magician, another alternate history set in the same timeframe.
One note: the book is very long and some cut would have made it very exciting.
