I liked the The Book of Hidden Wonders and was fascinated by this one.
It's not the type of book I would recommend if you want an action packed and fast paced story because it's very slow burning and you cannot stop reading because you are enthralled by the descriptions and the mysteries in the life of the two women.
It's a haunting, atmospheric and ethereal nove told in a dual timeline. Marianne and Tartelin, two women with some mysteries in the past, on a semi desert island that is full of surprises and possible mysteries.
When I read the first book I was fascinated by the richness of the details, the eery atmosphere and the sense of isolation. The author is a good storyteller and the story kept me reading and discovering new aspects of the women story and of the island
The style of writing is poetic, the characters are well developed and the descriptions of the natural world talks about a lot of reasearch.
Highly recommended.

I'm fascinated by Ottoman history and this was a comprehensive and informative book. It was also a book that kept me reading till late in the night.
Ottomans are part of the European history but they're often depicted as the bad guys. I'm Italian and there's a sort of ancestral fear of them due some local massacre that didn't help.
I never thought they considered themselves as the heir to the Roman empire and this is something that should be taken into account.
I discovered them when I traveled to Istanbul and this book helped me to learn more about them and their history (not the first I read but one of the best).
It's a fascinating and well researched book that should be read by anyone interested in learning more about a less known part of European history.
Highly recommended.

The blurb seemed interesting and I like enemy-to-lover trope so I was sure I was going to love it.
There's a lot of potential in this story but there's also a lot of "Already seen" and the story didn't keep my attention.
Not my cup of tea.

3,5* rounded to 4
I had fun reading this book and there's a lot of food for thought and humour.
The pig is a great character even if some more development would have helped.
It's a bizarre, entertaining and original dystopia. There's a lot of black humour and the possibile future is quite bleak.
Even if I enjoyed it I found it too fast and the characters are a bit underdeveloped.

I must say I was expecting some fantasy elements and, fairytale apart, there wasn't any.
I appreciated this story that mixes family relationship, going back and trying to discover what happened to a missing father.
Rebecca is a well developed character even if I found her a bit too unsure.
The author did a good job in developing the characters and the fairy tales are excellent.
I was a bit disappointed by the ending.
I think that this author could write excellent fantasy.
It's an atmospheric, engrossing and well written story.

This is sweet and entertaining story. I recently discovered the series and bought this short story.
It's a mix of fantasy and cozy mystery featuring lovely characters and they are foxes, bears, raven.
It's not the first series I read featuring animals that investigate and I loved this one reading it in one setting.
It's highly recommended if you love a mix of fantasy and cozy mystery

An entertaining and compelling start of a new series. I liked the characters and the plot kept me reading.
The descriptions of the places are well done and you can visualize places.
I look forward to reading the next instalment.

4,5* rounded up
I think this a homage to Golden Age mysteries and Nancy Drew as some of the tropes of this type of mysteries are present in this book: being snowed in, plenty of suspects in a closed environment, a locked room puzzle.
The beginning is a bit slow burning and the introduction of the characters and the setting helps to understand what will happen.
I was a bit disappointed by the solution of the puzzle but had a lot of fun and was glad to catch up with Jodie and the cast of characters.
I found this book high on entertaining level and it kept me reading.
Highly recommended.

Is this really the last book in this great series or there will be other (one can hope) ?
I don't know the answer and I would be happy to read other adventures featuring Irene, Kay and the fascinating characters.
This was a riveting, highly entertaining story that left no loose end, expanded the world building and evolved the character arc.
Genevieve Cogman is an excellent storyteller and this story kept me reading till late in the night.
I'm excited about the new series and hope there will be more Invisible Library stories.

Another excellent mystery featuring the Bronte sisters, a riveting and fascinating story that kept me reading and guessing.
The books in this series are very good mysteries and a great way to learn more about the Bronte sisters, their life and their career.
I appreciated the descriptions of London and the vivid and well researched historical background.
The plot is well crafted and the mystery is solid.
Can't wait to read the next installment.
Highly recommended.
