This is an excellent addition to an excellent historical mystery series.
I found it a bit darker than the previous instalments but it's as riveting and highly entertaining as usual.
I was happy to catch up with Matthew and Harriet, and the mystery kept me guessing.
The historical background and the characters are excellent.
Highly recommended.

This is a brilliant book, a noir that could have been written during the golden age and I appreciated it starting with the cover so similar to those of the 40s.
It's a gritty story, full of twists, a gripping plot that keeps you reading.
The atmosphere and the historical details are well done, the characters are fleshed out and the author is a good storyteller that never let your attention waiver.
Highly recommended.

A fascinating, thought provoking and well researched book.
We know about Ireland as country where Catholicism impacted the development, where people was persecuted, and is disappearing now.
The book cover a very long timeframe and there's a lot of discussions about the relationship between christianity and political power.
I appreciated the whole book but I think that the last chapter is the most interesting as it talks about future.
Highly recommended.

As a huge fan of Golden Age mysteries I was looking forward to reading this book that features Agatha Christie's housekeeper.
There's a lot to love in this book and there're also some small issue.
The positive side:
- I like Phyllida: she's shrewd, organised, non conformist and a bit too judgemental at time. I like her strength
- The mystery was solid and kept me guessing
- The author is able to recreate the atmosphere of a golden age mystery and I loved how she describes the downstair relationships
Cons:
- The author is very good at reproducing Agatha Christie's style of writing but somehow I felt like her own voice was missing.
I had a lot of fun and liked this debut, can't wait to read the next novel.

It's not the first book I read bout Greek history but it's surely the most complete as it starts in the archaic times and covers a long timeframe.
I think that the best part are those covering archaic and classic Greek history. It's bit harder to follow after the Roman conquest but, my fault, it was the first time I read about those times.
It's an informative, well researched and well written book.
Not an easy read but I learned a lot.

What a ride and what a good story. It's a gripping, twisty and fascinating story that I couldn't put down.
There's a strong sense of the place and the descriptions of Bath made discovered a darker side to this gorgeous town.
Rawls is a damages and complex characters that I like. The author did a good job with the character development.
The mystery is solid and kept me guessing.
I can't wait to read another book by this author.
Highly recommended.

I don't know if it's a retelling of the Nutcracker, there're some elements in common, but I can say that the author delivered a magical, enthralling and well written fairy tale that I thoroughly enjoyed.
There's a mix of historical fiction and fantasy and the two genre work well together.
The world building is fascinating, some elements reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, and the Christmas night atmosphere is magic.
Great world building, a sweet romance, and well developed characters.
I liked the style of writing and the author is talented storyteller.

A fascinating retelling of the myth of Medusa, one of the bad guy of ancient mythology.
This story change perspective and we are able to read her side of the story and see how a story can be change modifying the perspective.
Jessie Burton is a talented storyteller and her word matches the gorgeous illustrations creating a great book.
Highly recommended.

Isabel Blood is one of the reason why i love this police procedural series: she's a happy person, no trauma and no chip on her shoulder.
This is a rarity and I love how the author developed her.
It's a compelling, gripping and highly entertaining mystery, it kept me reading and guessing.
There's a lot of twists, an interesting setting and a great cast of characters.
