There were literal tears, laughing out loud, and gasps comping from me as I read and listened to this book. I was able to listen to the audio book while following along with the physical book and it was such a wonderful and engaging experience! I loved how this one brought everything together and finished up the story. I will recommend this series to anyone and everyone.
This actually gets three and a HALF stars. So, I liked it better than Caraval and I think it's because I like Tella's character better than Scarlet's. BUT, it lost some credibility with me because the epilogue made me realize that Tella turns SIXTEEN at the END of this book. SERIOUSLY?!?! A 15 year old CHILD is a MC in Caraval and Legendary? NO. Just, NO. I already had issues with the dramatically dramatic romance aspects of this series, but now I hear that these girls are actually THIS young? I need my fiction to be somewhat real... but I suppose that a 15 year old would read this and absolutely adore having the protagonist the same age. So, I do enjoy the story. The game of Caraval, the "not game" of Legendary, and the idea that people are all immersive in the games... I just have issues with the romance being a little too dramatic (I wish I could think of another word, but I'm blanking right now) and the girls being so young. I will read Finale, because I like the story and I don't want to leave this trilogy unfinished.
This time I rated this book in spite of the narrator that read Reid's part. My issue with his reading is that he sounded a little robotic and some character's came out nasally so I didn't feel like he sounded like what I would have image Reid and some other characters to sound like. I really enjoyed this book! The story, world, characters of Lou, Reid, Ansel and Coco were all so wonderful. I listened to the book while also reading along with my physical copy, so I was able to hear the proper pronunciation of the french words and that was awesome. I am looking forward to the next book and finding out more about this enchanting world and story!
I thought this was a super cute love story. It was easy to read, and FUN. I loved the renaissance faire pieces, they were written well and made me MISS GOING to FAIRE! The relationship between Simon and Emily was a good read... the enemies to lovers trope was obvious but written well so that it wasn't annoying. I really liked how they worked on their relationship when it got tricky at the beginning, and the resolution at the end... It was great!
This book... HEART WRENCHING! I admit, I was a little worried when I started this book, because not only is it written by a friend of mine (pressure to love it!) but it also tackled the issues of relationships before, during, and after deployment. I have lived through 2 awful deployments (they are ALL awful) and I worried that this book either would make them seem way too easy to live through, or way too dramatic. Well, Vanessa hit it on the head. The emotions she wrote in such a way that they felt VERY real. Not overly dramatized or glossed over! I felt all the emotions just as I had when deployment, worry, not knowing... when it was all my reality. The story was so good, so real. Not only did it deal with the military aspect of the relationship, but it dealt with the relationship itself. Everyone goes into relationships with baggage, and seeing those relationships in the book was so authentic. I am SO glad that I finally read this book and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know how it REALLY is to live through this type of life.
I really liked this story! I’m surprised actually. I didn’t love the main character but I kinda fell for Gavriel. I am not happy that I don’t know what happens to Tana... I want her to become a vampire and hunt with Gavriel and do all the vampire things... but I don’t know because the book doesn’t say! I’ll just pretend that’s what happens.
This was such a beautiful story. It was so FULL of life. It had so many pieces, stories within stories, and FEELINGS. I loved it so much. I'm going to miss this world but I know I will go back to it and re-read it in the future.
Ok, I really liked this book. The characters were all so well written that I appreciate each of them. I want to know more about them and their lives. I’m intrigued. The story was well paced once I got about 3-4 chapters in. Before that, I wasn’t so sure where it was heading but it all came together. I liked the surprises and twists and then the explanations and where it all led. The wit and banter between the characters was so fun. Even though I’ll be waiting for a month or so to read the 2nd book in this duology, I’m really looking forward to getting back into this world!
