The author states multiple times that she aims to write a book that proves sociopaths are not evil or criminals. And then she spends nearly 400 pages detailing a lifetime of compulsive crimes: stalking, theft, robbery, home invasion, and occasional physical harm, all of which bring her euphoria. It's an interesting, disturbing look inside the mind of a sociopath but it definitely does not fulfill her aim.

To be fair, I didn't know this was a sequel because it doesn't say that anywhere on the book. I find this author frustrating because the women characters are often described in a much more sexually objectifying way than the men characters. The premise of this book was more interesting than the story.
It Didn't Start with You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How to End the Cycle
slow-paced
Honestly, it felt like a lot of nonsense. Generational trauma is a real thing -- but I just can't believe that chronic health issues are actually burning off karma or resolving unfinished business of ghosts in your extended family who may not even be directly related to you. A man having pains because his uncle died of frostbite to the leg before the man was born or a woman having issues because a distant long-lost cousin married into a Jewish family affected by the Holocaust.... It's preposterous.

I had to stop midway through this book to look at the author bio to figure out if this novel was sincere or trolling. It's stuffed to the brim with social justice buzzwords and self-centered introspection that never resolves, in such an overt manner that I started to wonder if it was exaggerated for malicious purposes, even though I didn't have objections to the views presented. The protagonist's perennial struggle with feeling like they are simultaneously advocating on social justice and not doing enough felt like the majority of the narrative. I want to support this author as they were good at capturing emotion - I just wanted more plot and less spoon-feeding.

This therapist's memoir was entertaining and interesting, but there were also spots that confirm the fears of the anxious patient - that therapists are indeed sometimes bored, annoyed, and resentful of their clients, and chronically dislike some of them. It's probably a cathartic read for a fellow therapist, but maybe not a good read for someone struggling to stay in therapy.

RuPaul as her own narrator was engaging and kept the pace moving. A few areas felt like Ru was skimming over the truth, but overall it was worth the listen.

This is a page turner! Framed by unreliable narrators, the story builds through switching perspectives and a faux-documenrary perspective from the future. Don't read the additional chapter online... It kind of ruins the whole vibe.
