Very interesting take on dark academia and persuasion! The opening was very similar to how acceptance worked in the show version of Magicians, but really that’s my only complaint. Once you’re past the standard setting for admittance it was a new portrayal of how magic worked in this world. I actually loved the bit of sci-fi brought in to explain how the school sits in reality. I feel like that’s an area that doesn’t get explained often. And bonus points for the author’s correct depiction of when the Southern US summer starts. (And yes, it is in fact in April!)

Netflix did Lockwood & Co so dirty! The Hollow Boy picks up where the series drops off, which makes it impossible to understand how on earth it was canceled! There’s so much to love here; the mystery of Lockwood’s family, the complex relationship with Lockwood and Lucy, the skull in the jar (love him!), and the team learning to balance work and regular life. The team is maturing and expanding, complete with growing pains. I really loved seeing the character learn and grow, sometimes in really hard ways. And of course, that cliffhanger ending! Have that next book ready!

First, I’m mad I didn’t know this damn trilogy existed (thanks pandemic). Second, I’m mad it took me this long to find it. And third, I’m mad I don’t have the second book to dive into as soon as I finished this one! I loved the Raven Cycle, and this is a most welcome continuation of the Lynch brothers and the Dreamers. Fantastic read and I want more, more, more!

Wildly inappropriate and thoroughly entertaining! If Deadpool was a woman dropped into a high fantasy setting and had to survive. Even the footnotes were hilarious. My only complaint is that I had to scan back through to find where he’d hidden them on the page before I could keep reading!
