One of the most stunning books I have ever read. I knew of the horrors in history she based this on, but the way it was woven into the narrative of the war was startlingly real. You saw the horrors as they were recounted in such a way that it was hard to believe actual humans did this to one another. The way she writes the characters and dialogue, I believe they exist. This wasn’t reading, it was full immersion. Incredible book! I can’t wait for the next one!

WTF did I just read? This has to have been one of the strangest books I’ve ever encountered. I can’t tell you if I liked it or hated it. The characters are awful and all the action happens in the last 10 pages, and then it just abruptly ends.
