I think the quality of writing is the same book to book, I just happen to like the story more or less depending on what’s happening

Meh, less interested in this one, but good enough

Weird because there isn’t payoff for some things (like Michael’s red battery) and an attempt and making philosophical points that it then sometimes goes against.

Still interested enough to keep going

Fun, weird pacing across all the books but still have hope. Excited for the next one

Fun expansion of the story. Considering I started this series thinking there was only one book, I’ve had to adjust expectations, but I think it’s doing pretty well

Fun, exciting romp with scares and thrills! Slight issues with pacing but all good enough!

The first part was so so soooo slow. I almost gave up and/or just reading summaries about it but I feel like it ended interesting enough.

Audiobook narration was great, but man listening to 6-12 year olds speak constantly is way too much for me.

I think it’s one of those books that I should have read when i was younger but still hits hard as an adult.

Honestly, I wasn’t super drawn in by the cover, the title, or the blurb at the back. It was the passion that people who had read it had - I didn’t know if it’s because it was super romantic and that’s just their thing or what, but eventually I got the audiobook and I’m so glad I did

Note, I specifically avoided learning anything about the book because of the hype, and I think that’s why a lot of people didn’t like it. I went into it thinking it was going to be a vapid heterosexual romance novel about a starlet (all of which doesn’t really interest me).

I actually didn’t know if I’d finish reading it as the beginning was just meh but I just needed something to distract me from my life. Some twists I thought were obvious (but treated well so I didn’t mind), a few were not at all. I also think reading the audiobook made the characters more like real people (rather than annoying as some reviewers have put)

I did think the identity discussion about her Cuban ancestry would have benefited from more nuance.

So gay, so complex, dealing with serious issues around fame, queerness, expectations, abuse, love, family, and more. It comes full circle and thinks though the details. Also an excellent consideration of being bisexual.

Not really sure what the point of it was? To have enough money to not have to work and to be able to rest and buy drugs? Last bit seemed to be in your face about the need to be alive. To be awake. But it was kind of contrived. And the rest didn’t really say that either. It doesn’t really saaaaaaay anything at all actually.

Wasn’t nearly as good as Come Join Our Disease by Sam Byers on a somewhat similar vein

When I thought it was based on the writer’s real life, it was good enough. But a fiction story?

Good enough
